Guest guest
Have you tried using diatomaceous earth outside and borax inside? Maybe diluted garlic and jalapeno spray would help, too.

Guest guest
Both are pet and child safe. Be sure the DE bag says food grade; if it doesn't, it isn't. You can try eating more garlic, too, so you're not so tasty to the chiggers, lol. They might not mind, though, if they're that bad. I put 3-4 garlic cloves and a jalapeno in the blender with 1-2 cups water and whir til everything is well ground. It can be used immediately but gains strength " steeping " in the fridge in a glass jar with more water added after the blender part, esp if heated first to release volatile oils. About the most I've ever put in a 32-oz spray bottle of water is a tablespoon WITHOUT the jalapeno for misting it around legs and arms for me; hubby tolerates the kind with jalapeno. I wouldn't spray directly on the skin, and probably starting with less is better than with more, maybe a teaspoon. Diluted garlic 'spray' alone is pretty potent stuff, but you might have to play with the mixture because chiggers are really determined. Using too high a concentration will brown-spot foliage and kill more delicate plants. You could also try some citrus peels in the blender for a much milder citrus oil product. Just remember to use less rather than more in a dilution. Citrus oil can be purchased, too. A drop or two of liquid dish soap emulsifies citrus oils with water. We had a flea infestation a few years ago; hubby sprayed the house with just the garlic mixture liberally after we cleared out and then sprayed the ground outside with the strained mixture in one of those hose attachments to get the dilution. There was some brown spotting but the infestation was so bad, I didn't care. It worked fast and well. Needs repeating especially outside, though, the eggs lie dormant in the ground.
