Hay Fever Treatment By Dr. Ben Kim on September 14, 2006 Hay fever, also known as seasonal allergies or allergic rhinitis, is a condition that is effectively treated with specific dietary and lifestyle measures. As discussed in an article that I wrote on treating seasonal allergies, I have found the following measures to be effective in treating hay fever: Apply deep massage to the acupressure points that are discussed here. Avoid all sources of MSG and artificial sweeteners. Take a high quality probiotic on a daily basis. Consider doing a juice fast to help remove stored toxins from your tissues, particularly from the insulating sheath that surrounds your nervous system. Ensure adequate vitamin D status. Vitamin D is essential for optimal nervous system and immune system health. Researchers from the Fukuoka University School of Medicine in Japan have found that eating large quantities of seaweed can also decrease

symptoms of hay fever. Their study, published in the August 2006 issue of the periodical ls of Epidemiology, also found that high consumption of the minerals calcium, phosphorous, and magnesium helped to reduce allergy symptoms. In a different but related study, published in the June 2005 issue of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the same researchers found that consumption of miso paste was associated with a reduced prevalence of hay fever. This finding is congruent with my recommendation to take a high quality probiotic for seasonal allergies, as traditionally fermented miso paste is abundant in friendly bacteria. Suzi What is a weed?
