Guest guest Posted January 23, 2004 Report Share Posted January 23, 2004 HIV mapping exercise to be over by March TIMES NEWS NETWORK [FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 2004 12:28:42 AM ] CHANDIGARH : A regional review meeting on mapping of high risk groups was organised by the Punjab state AIDS control society on Thursday. The meeting was organised to review and assess the progress of the mapping exercise in Punjab , Haryana, HP and Rajasthan under the guidance of the National Aids Control Organisation (NACO). The prevalence of HIV is considered to be on the lower side in Punjab and as per the HIV sentinel surveillance round 2002, the prevalence in low risk population was 0.37 per cent and high risk population was 1.6 per cent. The director of the Punjab AIDS control society, Anjali Bhawra, said the mapping exercise is being done in 12 district of the state. These include, Gurdaspur, Patiala , Faridkot, Bathinda, Ludhiana , Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Amritsar , Sangrur, Ropar, Ferozepur and Fatehgarh Sahib. This is meant to identify the population group at high risk for contracting HIV/AIDS and also to identify the locations where they are concentrated.
