Guest guest
The Toronto Star, Canada Monday, May 28, 2007 Firefighters pitch in to help blind victim By Moira Welsh May 28, 2007 10:31 AM GOOD DEEDS It was a day of spaghetti and meat sauce, cooked by Oakville firefighters, to help a man who went blind after a dental infection spread to his eyes, killing the nerves. Moses Han could not afford to pay the dental bill to fix his dying tooth, so he decided to tough it out, but the infection spread quickly and destroyed his eyes. After months of hospitalization, Han and his wife Gloria lost their Oakville convenience store and were at risk of losing their home. That is when retired firefighter Dave Sayer stepped up, bringing in the Oakville Professional Firefighters Association, the Salvation Army and councillor Marc Grant. On Saturday, during the first of three sittings of pasta, crusty buns, salad and butter tarts, the firefighters presented Han with a trust fund cheque for $42,000. By the end of the day, the donations were a few dollars shy of $50,000. " I lost my sight, but there are lots of people here who are giving me hope and love, " Han said. http://www.thestar.com/News/article/218318 -- BlindNews mailing list To contact a list moderator about a problem or to make a request, send a message to BlindNews-Owner@...
