, I think there was some aloe butter

Shaye

What is it?

Hey guys. I'm just getting around to putting away all the

little goodies we got last weekend and I have a question.

I have a small bag (of some kind of butter?) that was

in a larger bag with a big slip tin and a wooden soapdish

from Creekside Soaps. Am I right in assuming that it's

Shea Butter? I was going to mark it as such, but then thought

well it could also be Mango Butter or Aloe Butter. Could

Terri or Colleen enlighten me (if they recall this stuff) so that

I don't mismark it?

Thanks

M

M-It's shea butter in the baggy. Sorry! They came in little plastic

containers, but some of them were broken. In my haste of putting things

together, I forgot to label the baggies. Now I know what it was I was

forgetting!! LOL!

Well, at least one thing anyway!

Oh, OK. I just wanted to be sure. And I couldn't

really tell by the smell since there really isn't much smell

to it. Thanks

Mine was in a baggie with a twist-tie. No container. So I don't

know if they're two different things or not. Are you going to start

doing a "taste test" next? (hehe) You first.

Yes, Shaye, there were 2. The aloe butter was from Between Friends Too and was

safe & secure in their sample packs. The shea butter was from Florida Soap

Supplies and unfortunately 2 out of the 6 containers broke a little during

shipping.

Hope that wasn't too confusing! I'd forgotten there were 2 containers.

Hi Carl,

Coral calcium is calcium carbonate and is good for all the things for which

calcium is recommended.

Carbonate is the form that I instruct my patients to avoid. That is the

carrier that the body will absorb if it has nothing else to absorb...meaning

the body likes it least and will go for it last. The carriers the body

prefers better are citrate, orotate, gluconate and/or asparate. There is a

reason why the guy on the commercial spends so much time attempting to

convince you that it is 'well absorbed' .... just not true.

And then we get to the fact that it is hard milled tablets. In the

Chiropractic Economics journal of March/April l998 there is an articel

written by Friedman DC (with research taken from the l996 PDR) showing

that the hard milled tablets provide 10 - 20% absorption vs 8- - 95%

absorption from powders and liquids.

The powdered calcium I recommend for my patients come from Highland Labs in

Mt. Angel, Oregon (a tart, lemony flavor) and/or from Enrich Internations (a

soft peach flavor). And, when they take it at night, they come back and tell

you how much their sleep has improved. (For people over 50, I also suggest a

10 grain Betain Hydrocholoric Acid capsule be taken just before the calcium

as HCl is necessary for calcium absorption.)

Hope this helps. Sunny Kierstyn

You can learn all about the SCDiet on www.breakingthevisciouscycle.com. It

is a diet that excludes ALL starch from the diet. It's very complicated to

follow and you have to read at the site. There is a book by the same name

as the site by Elaine Gottshall which will help you. I'm no expert as my

son has only been on it 2 weeks.

I use No Fenol by Houston Neutroceuticals. It helps my son be able to eat

all manner of nuts, tomatoes that sort of thing. I love it.

I don't know about Kirkman's enzymes at all, sorry.

I dont' know if the diet above would suit your son as I am unfamiliar with

his condition, but you will learn a lot if you go to the site.

All the best,

marti

Sorry, I also meant to say that phenols/salicylates are components to food

that are difficult for some people to digest. No Fenol helps digest them.

Is it a movie that's coming out? If so what's the movie title called?

rebecca

WHAT IS IT?

Has anyone heard about Crispin Glover's movie, WHAT IS IT?  He's been making

it for more than five years.  There's a story about Glover in the March 28th

edition of Entertainment Weekly, and this is what it says about the movie.

" ...But the real motivation behind his kinder, gentler work ethic is his

cinematic labor of love: WHAT IS IT?

Glover is both directing and financing WHAT IS IT? -- a surrealist

hero's journey that he describes as 'the adventures of a young man whose

principle interests are snails, salt, and how to get home.'  He's been

toiling on the project for five years.  Probably more.  'It's been a long

time,' he sheepishly admits.  'I don't even like to say.  It's

embarrassing.'

If you've heard about Glover's film, it's probably because of the cast.

While Glover makes an appearance, the majority of the cast has Down

syndrome.  Some people may see this as a provocative act, or an insensitive

one.  But Glover adamantly denies this.  'The fact that people get disturbed

because we use people with Down syndrome, well, that's not very nice,' he

says.  'You look at movies and it's considered bad for a white person to put

blackface on because it's not right.  But it is okay for a non-mentally

retarded person to play somebody who is mentally retarded, and I find that

odd.'  It should be noted that What Is It? also features an actor in

blackface.  Glover continues:  'The film isn't about Down syndrome at all.

They're not playing mentally retarded people.  It's not about that.  The

important thing to me is that it's not about making fun of people with Down

syndrome.'

[] Lynch says he's seen a version of the movie and backs Glover up.

'It's extremely interesting,' he says.  'I've talked to Crispin about it and

I think he's doing it in the right spirit.'  Lynch pauses.  'Look, Crispin

has obsessions, and he's just got to play them out.'

In the end, Glover says he envisions WHAT IS IT? as the first

installment in a trilogy.  'Like STAR WARS,' he says.

    Like STAR WARS...

I wait for what seems an eternity for Glover to laugh, smile, something,

anything, to indicate that this comparison to the Jedi saga is a put-on.

Only he doesn't.  He just sits there, straight-faced, like the teller of an

inside joke to which only Crispin Glover knows the punchline. "

There's a picture with the article, of a young man with Down syndrome

wearing a leaf-crown on his head (rather like Apollo would be pictured).

I doubt it will be out soon, as he is still working on it and doesn't seem

to have an end in sight. The movie is called WHAT IS IT? I can't imagine

it would get wide distribution, though. It might play in the little art

theaters.

Peyton,

A good place to begin is to go to www.google.com and do a search on the

following expression, with quotation marks as shown:

+ " swollen fingers " +sausage

This will bring up 46 web pages, only a fraction of which deal with

disease. A brief overview of these page reveals that swollen, sausage-like

fingers can be associated with the following diseases:

Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD)

Psoriatic arthritis

Scleroderma

Also do Google searches on the terms below, with quotation marks as shown:

" Reynaud's phenomenon "

" Reynaud phenomenon "

+dactylitis +sausage

Dactilitis means swollen fingers. The search expression +dactylitis

+sausage will bring up 215 web pages. That should get you started!

Sincerely, Harald

No way that we know of yet. However you need to understand the

importance of salt in the diet and your body for the damage the aldo

can do. The lower the salt intake the lower the damage.

Yes Pat ...........It's Oregano from Learning herbs I knew I had to harvest some oregano before it flowered, and thought a branch on oregano might be fun. My oregano is spreading this year, claiming more space in my garden. I don’t mind that at all. I use oregano a lot in my cooking. When I harvest oregano, I just think of giving the plant a haircut. If I cut my oregano all the way to the ground like I do my lemon balm or peppermint it will not come back. So, I cut about halfway down the stem leaving lots of healthy leaves below my cuts. Once cut, I dry my oregano on a very low setting in my dehydrator. (It took a full day and night on the number 2 setting.) You can also strip off some of the lower leaves and tie the stems together and hang the

oregano somewhere out of direct sunlight to dry, but this time of year in the northwest we’re still getting wet days quite often and herbs just don’t dry very well in our damp air. Once it was fully dry, I stripped the oregano leaves from the stems into a mason jar for storage. I just composted the stems, but if you put them across the grill when you’re barbequing it will add some oregano flavor to your barbeque. You can do this with stems of other herbs (lavender, sage…) as well. Of course most of us know the wonderful taste oregano can add to our meals, especially Italian dishes, but I was curious what I would find with a little more research about this commonly used herb. One thing I found was a recipe for Oregano Pesto in a book called Fresh Herbs by: Barbara Radcliffe . It sounds yummy enough that I may try it with my second

oregano harvest this year. Oregano Pesto 1 ¼ cups fresh oregano leaves ¼ cup fresh parsley 1 clove garlic ¼ cup walnut meat, chopped ¼ cup walnut oil (I don’t know where to get this, so I’ll probably substitute olive oil) ¼ cup parmesan cheese, grated Blend all ingredients except the cheese in a blender until smooth. Add parmesan cheese, and stir into hot pasta. She says, “This is a robust blend, so use it more sparingly than you would basil pesto.” What else did I learn? Well, that the name oregano is of Greek origin and translates roughly as “Joy of the Mountain,” and that the Greeks used

poultices of the leaves to treat sores and aching muscles. Also, a strong tea made with the fresh herb (1 tsp. leaves to 1 cup boiling water steeped 10-15 minutes) has been recommended for soothing upset stomachs and headaches and also to help loosen phlegm during coughing and other respiratory ailments. It’s great to learn a couple of new things about an herb I use regularly as I’m harvesting it. Now, next time I have a stomach-ache or a cough I’ll give oregano tea a try, and maybe I’ll even make an oregano poultice for my next cut. Suzi What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered. health/ http://suziesgoats.wholefoodfarmacy.com/ http://360./suziesgoats

The only reason that I got it was I happened to be cooking with Oregano that day. I have also used it for an upset stomach. I love these pop quizzes keep them coming.
