Guest guest
Hello, Yes you can eat garbanzo beans or any other types of beans for that matter raw. Please keep in mind that raw beans are harder to digest so you don't want to eat too many of them, a handful on a salad will do no harm, but listen to your body as your body might react if you are not used to eatting them. If you sprout them then cook them, it greatly reduces the cooking time. More nutrients are preserved and they are easier to digest. Guest guest
Sorry, I omitted a word in my question. Here is what I meant to ask, As I read and research I get conflicting information. Some writers say that SPROUTED Garbanzo Beans (and other beans as well) have to be cooked before eating, others say they can be put is a salad as is. " By your answer I think I understand that basicly sprouted beans can be used raw in salads. Am I right? (sorry if I am slow to get the point) I have been a vegetarian for 18 years, and have done occasional sprouting in the past, but am getting into it more seriously at present. I know no other vegetarians, and no one who sprouts. I am glad to have found this group. Thanks, Ken > > As I read and research I get conflicting > > information. Guest guest
You can soak garbonzos over night, then remove the hull and eat one or two tablespoons at a time. > > > As I read and research I get conflicting > > > information. Guest guest
Garbanzo Beans Did you know that not all carbohydrates are created equal? With growing concerns over rising obesity rates in the United States has come a growing concern over the excessive intake of carbohydrates. What is often lost in the trend towards reducing carbohydrate intake is that it is not merely the quantity, but the quality of the carbs we eat that makes a difference as to whether they promote weight gain. For example, some of our most nutritious foods, including starchy vegetables and legumes, are rich in carbohydrates. One of the ways to decide whether a carbohydrate-rich food is one you want to include in your diet is to look at its score on the glycemic index, a numerical scale that measures how quickly and how high a particular food will increase blood sugar levels. Substantial research indicates that a low glycemic diet has many health benefits, including weight control. High in fiber, high in protein ! and low on the glycemic index, legumes, such as garbanzo beans, are healthy carbohydrates and a highly recommended addition to your Healthierst Way of Eating.
