Guest guest
How often to do a CBC is the doc's and your call, not mine. You could also do detox using ALA only, and no DMSA. Remember, the DMSA is NOT essential if he has mercury and/or arsenic. Andy > Now I am really scared. Jimmy is only 4.5. He is constantly getting > sick on DMSA. Dairy is horribly mucous forming in me and since going off dairy I've never had a sinus infection and almost never get colds anymore. I've since discovered I'm both lactose intolerant and have a casein allergy and I don't tolerate even raw, cultured milk, so I realize that this advice wouldn't necessarily be for everyone. But it's been like night and day for me. I've heard that it's good to also go off of any flour products during a cold or sinus infection. My kids are getting wider nostrils, so maybe they will be ok! Here is what has helped: 1. Kefir whey in the neti pot. This is magic! Only 1/4 tsp though, or it can sting (and add your salt as usual). The whey has to be less than a week old. 2. Guifenesen. This makes your snot runnier. Some people have less liquid snot -- might be due to something like Sjogrens, one CF gene, or warm houses. Gui. is pretty harmless, and it is due to go over-the-counter soon. 3. Get allergies handled. Gluten and casein are the obvious culprits, but many food allergies lead to blocked sinuses. When I get a " bad " meal my sinuses get blocked within a couple of hours. 4. Beconase or other nasal steriods -- they make your nose impervious to inhalant allergies. It works long-term, you have to use it daily for always, but there are few if any side effects. 5. Benadryl at night -- clears up your sinuses so they can heal. 6. Rhinoblast -- a special drug mix that kills fungi, bacteria, and has steriods that wipes out all the problems at once. I've used all of these, but at this point I am fine with #1. My nasal allergies went away when I handled my food allergies. If an infection gets really bad, sometimes getting doctor antibiotics might be the way to go -- they really can be dangerous. I've been really pleased with the kefir whey though -- I think it has bacteriophages in it (all whey does, but kefir is even more of a special case) and antibiotics, and maybe it re-populates the sinuses with good bacteria. Recently I read an article that confirms my theory (I think it was New Scientist, but I can't find it now) that the nose has probiotic bacteria like the gut does -- it SHOULD be colonized with friendly bacteria. Hope this helps! -- Heidi
Guest guest
I would just add that goldenseal shouldn't be used for more than a few weeks. It can inhibit absorption of B vitamins and kill good gut bacteria. I'd also be careful with drugs that suppress the mucus, since mucus is the body's way of throwing off the infection. OTOH, you don't want to be up all night not being able to breathe; that's not good for your health either! Heidi, do you think the magical kefir whey is the only way to go for this purpose? I'm not against antibiotics completely; they saved my life 6 years ago when staph got into my bloodstream and my systems starting shutting down. When the body is so overwhelmed, you need to suppress the hell out of the symptoms! But in most cases when you have a good working immune system and the body's natural defenses are not so compromised, it's always best to give it the chance to do its own healing. Otherwise, when you knock the symptoms out by suppressing them, the body's going to have to just find another way to express them, and bodies are very resourceful about that :-) Glad you're making progress. I have not used it, but am going to suggest it to someone who suffers from chronic sinusitus. From the website: Better Health through Nasal Cleansing Bacteria and germs are all around us. They live on the surfaces that we touch and in the air that we breathe. With germs and bacteria all around us, how do we prevent them from entering our bodies? The Center for Disease Control has stated that, " Hand washing is the most effective way of reducing communicable disease. " We wash our hands to clean them and we are also cautioned to keep our hands away from our mouth and nose, but more than ninety percent of infection causing bacteria enter the body through the nose and thrive in the nasal passages. How do we keep our nasal passages clean and free of harmful germs? USE XLEAR NASAL WASH! Xylitol is one of bacteria\x{2019}s natural enemies. When certain harmful bacteria enter the body, they attach to the membranes of the nose and throat. Xlear Nasal Wash merely flushes harmful bacteria away. WHAT IS IN XLEAR NASAL WASH? Xlear Nasal Wash contains xylitol, purified water, saline and grapefruit seed as a preservative. Purified water, saline, and grapefruit seed extract (GSE) are found in over-the-counter nasal moisteners that have been used for years. Xylitol is the key ingredient that makes Xlear Nasal Wash so revolutionary and effective IS NASAL WASH SAFE? Xylitol is a remarkable substance. It is all natural and is non habit-forming. The World Health Organization and the FDA have given xylitol their safest ratings for food additives. Babies and small children can use Xlear Nasal Wash without restriction. Kefir is a weird substance and has lot of stuff in it, so it's hard to know what exactly it is that works. I think it has to do with phages, based on how LONG it works (i.e. I need it maybe once a month, if then). Phages exist in all whey, to different degrees. Guifenesen doesn't suppress mucous, BTW, it just thins it out. In the winter it tends to get thick with indoor heat, and some people it's too thick normally. -- Heidi

I even got the kind that has a UV bulb that supposedly keeps you from having to disinfect the unit so often. But I still have to because of the mineral buildup which mucks up the works. Guest guest
Sinus infections were my first problem. I worked in a moldy school for many years. Now it is chronic and I have been diagnosed as having it in the bone. Make sure that you take all of the antibiotic, unless you have a reaction. Advice that I've been given is that you should feel good for 5 days before stopping the antibiotic. If you end up seeing the ENT I would ask about obtaining cultures, although that may be hard to do if you haven't had surgery. What kind of antibiotics are you on? Make sure to ask if it could be a fungal infection too. Good luck!! Kathy miffyj2002 <miffyj2002@...> wrote: I have been having headaches and faint feelings for a long time. He is giving me antibiotics and said if I am not better when I get finished with them he is sending me to an ENT. Has anyone else had these symptoms ?? Have you been diagnosed with anything ?? First chronic weakness, next sinus infection, next antibiotics, next severe uticaria, mext prendizone, next sinus surgery, asthma, reactive airways disease. Mostly everything for me starts with the sinuses, then the mucus membrances start getting irritated. Guest guest
Jane, Yes, I had horrible, blinding headaches on a daily basis! I also had the fainting & lightheaded feelings along with the eye problems. I am a teacher and couldn't see my manuals. I described it as if I had water in my eyes, kind of like when you go swimming & come up out of the water. I also had MANY sinus infections while I was at the school. Since leaving a yr. and a half ago and under Dr. Shoemaker's care I haven't had one sinus infection, common cold, sore throat, no illness of any kind whatsoever!!!! All my toxic mold related symptoms are also gone! I still get tired easily if I do too much in one day. I still take my medications and return to Dr. S every 3 months. Hope that is helpful! Guest guest
Absolutely! I first figured out I had allergy problems and worked in a moldy building when I had 3 nasty sinus infections in one winter. The headaches got bad when the sinus infections were raging. I had never had a sinus infection before in my whole life and I just could not figure out why when I blew my nose stuff came out pink and red. I went from being an insomniac that slept for 5-8 hours a day to someone who was still tired after sleeping 9-12 hours a day. For some reason I never had any real eye trouble, though that is common for other people. My eyes did feel different and sleep helped a lot, so in that sense it was similar to you. It took my doctors awhile to figure out the problem was an allergic reaction. Eventually I was tested and the only thing I was found to be highly allergic to was mold ... surprise, surprise -- what were the odds. After allergy shots, numerous trials of medication, and some office relocations I have gotten the problem under control ... though I still struggle with my allergies that *mysteriously* surfaced 5 years ago. [] Sinus Infection I have been having headaches and faint feelings for a long time. I also have problems with my eyes. It is like they have oil on them and I can't focus on anything. Guest guest
Shortly after moving into this mold infested apartment building in 2001 I started to get sick, and had no idea what was wrong, as I had always been healthy. At first, I would get headaches, I would be light-headed, and I had nasal congestion. Then I developed a cough, had problems with my eyes - could not focus, felt achy, was tired all the time, had difficulty breathing, would break out into sweats, would be chilly, and had brain-fog. I can't even remember how many times I've had sinusitis and bronchitis, and was put on Zithromax. It worked for about the first year and a half, but then stopped, and in June 2003, when the Zithromax didn't work, I got pneumonia and was hospitalized, and put on Bactrim. For about the past year, it has been a " fight " just to get thru the day. I use a nebulizer with Albuterol 4 times a day, but it doesn't help all that much, plus I still have all the problems listed above. In one of your other posts you stated you had filed a lawsuit. I have also filed a lawsuit, but am not pleased with my attorney, so if you live in PA., I was wondering if you would be willing to share the name of your attorney. Guest guest
Kathy, We're not talking about creepy crawling things here..just bad bacteria in your sinus cavities. Your nose is just the exit door for all of the build up. Of course, it never hurts to deworm yourself periodically, so you might see some creepy crawling things exit via your BMs. The more of this stuff you get out, the healthier you will become. Guest guest
Kathy, try snorting some clean water with salt and a pinch of baking soda added. Warm moist compresses will help the pain and pressure. Take extra garlic if you can because you need to control the bacterial growth. The problem with these infections is that they are so close to the eyes and brain that the infection sometimes moves there and that can be very serious. Lots of clean water to drink. No mucus-forming foods such as dairy and refined grains. Get as much rest as you can too. Most of my sinus infections clear with this regimen, but sometimes I do have to get some hefty antibiotics. Let us know how it’s going. Janet From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of Kathy Sent: Thursday, September 06, 2007 8:23 AM health Subject: sinus infection Hi guys, I have horrible sinus infection.
