Guest guest Posted May 7, 2003 Report Share Posted May 7, 2003 AIDS Related Diseases and Their Management: A workshop for General Practitioners. 10-11 May, 2003 Dr. Jivraj Mehta Asmita Bhavan, Civil Hospital Compound, Asarwa, Ahmedabad Gujarat AIDS Awareness and Prevention (GAP ) is a unit of ISRCDE, working in the field of HIV/AIDS for the last 14 years. GAP is a non-governmental registered organization. On the 10th and 11th May, 2003, GAP is organizing a workshop with General Practitioners of Ahmedabad city on AIDS Related Diseases and Their Managment. GAP got the inspiration to organize this workshop after meeting more than 800 medical practitioners of Ahmedabad city who expressed their desire to attend a workshop which will give them the exposure on AIDS related disease and their management. The challenge, all of us are face, is that, as the epidemic matures and as more and more people will get ill, and the current health system needs to be geared up. What GAP would like to achieve through this workshop is, is early detection of disease, the general practitioners could be equipped enough to diagnose and treat people clinically and GAP as partner should be able to extend the emotional support to the infected and affected and help them live a quality life. It is with these objectives, a one and half day workshop has been organized for the general practitioners of Ahmedabad city who had been already in contact with GAP. Almost 100 General Practitioners of Ahmedabad city will be participating The two day workshop will be inauguarated by Honourable Mayor of Ahmedabad, Ms. Aneesa Begum Mirza, at 3.00 p.m. on 10th May 2003. Dr.Sadhna Gupta, Dean-B.J.Medical College; Dr.Arul S.Rhaj, National President, Indian Medical Association, Dr. Dilip C. Vaidya, President, Ahmedabad Medical Association and Dr. R.B. Deshmukh, Project Director-Gujarat State AIDS Control Society, will also be attending the workshop. The workshop program includes presentations on Managment of Opportunistic Infection in AIDS patients, Clinical Management of STD/RTI, Dual Epidemic: HIV/AIDS and TB, Information on HIV test and CD4/CD8 count in the diagnosis & managment of HIV/AIDS, Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV, A General Practitioner's experience on HIV/AIDS and others.
