Guest guest
Nice kit. I made up an awesome med kit to take with me on a wilderness survival trip with a group of people. Guess what I left in the garage? We had a guy come down with a severe case of diarhea too, rather than using a premade remedy like I had in the kit had to make do with what we could wildcraft and prepare. It worked, but I kicked myself for having forgottened an important piece of safety gear. I like 2 tiers of kits. Tier one is a small first aid bag that easily goes in my rucksack for dealing with my own stuff. Tier two is a larger buttpack with more supplies to treat more people and more situations. I call that one my medicine man bag, for it's the one to take to a group of people who need alternative health care. Tier 3 we could say is all the goodies at home. Guest guest
Well, I use most of these TYPES of things in my kit. I have: Helicrysum EO that I got from Don for an anti-bacterial. It smells like fresh cut wheat, and actually is wonderful in the bath as Aroma Therapy; Cayenne powder and tincture for wounds (to stop the bleeding), headaches, hiccups, etc; Tonic Tincture just for fun, and to wash out wounds; Tonic Powder for sinus issues, and again just for fun; Goldenseal/Comfrey salve in place of NeoSporin; Sometimes I'll keep Arnica on hand for bruising and such, but avoid it for any open wound; Witch Hazel to wash things out like cuts and such; Catnip Tincture for a mosquito spray. It keeps the mosquito's away, but unfortunately the biting gnats love it. And as much as I hate to admit it, some Super Glue. I use it to close immediate cuts and such when necessary. It has saved me many a trip to the ER. Of course, the pre-requisite bandages, tape, sterile h2o, tweezers, scissors, knife, magnifying lenses. I also have a couple of tinctures that would probably get me busted, so I won't mention them here. That's my BASIC kit that I keep in the car and in my brief-case at all times. Now at home, that's another story!! Peace, love, laughter In health , Suzanne <suziesgoats@...> wrote: > > For those of you wanting a natural med kit ... Guest guest
After listing my kit, I realized that I forgot to add that I am looking for an anti-nausea tincture or some such. Any ideas anyone? Peace, love, laughter Why, Why, Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are getting dead? > > Nice kit. Guest guest
I love people sharing their quackery kits. One of my nicknames is " Doctor Quack " . The catnip tincture for bug dope is innovative. Yesterday I was harvesting catnip and coming inside my cat just about went nuts smelling my clothing. I've taken a liking to carrying a bottle of oreganol in the kit. A health store friend gave it to me when she heard I was going to India. Didn't need it there, but it's still good for boosting the immune system, dealing with infections, and the like. TINCTURES: Cayenne Lobelia Mint Yarrow (rarely use, sometimes skipped) ESSENTIAL OILS: tea tree (I've never used) oreganol lavender eucalyptus Anti diarhea capsules (purple loosestrife and barberry) Rescue remedy Arnica Montanna 30x homeopathic pills Comfrey powder Healing salve: the current mix is purple loosestrife, plantain, and comfrey with some essential oils. Misc first aid gear, bandages, tweezers, tape, and the like. Tweezers and bandaids get used the most. Don't forget the butterfly bandages to take the place of stiches. There are some other things that float in and out, like ginger tincture and poplar tincture. I love the latter for pain relief, bitters, and pooping power. If I'm not carrying that then there is willow tincture in there for pain relief. Sometimes there's people paste from the book 10 Essential Herbs. The author's mix is slippery elm, myrhh, and goldenseal. I make it with comfrey or marshmallow root, pine pitch, and barberry. Good for lots of accute disorders from flus to tummy aches to treating booboos. Been thinking of replacing the yarrow with boneset tincture. The brain is whirling now, I love taking things in and out and trying different stuff. Things that get used a lot are arnica, rescue remedy, healing salve, and a digestive bitter (the poplar or in a pinch the yarrow). My big pouch has an enema bag/hot water bottle (the hot water function has been used quite a lot, no takers on the other use), a boiling pot (for cooking up remedies in the field), more elaborate bandaging gear, rubber gloves, and a remake of the above herb stuff with added: Burn mix (aloe vera gel with lavender EO and St 'swort oil, magic mix thank you Doc for that recipe) Jewelweed/plantain poison ivy tincture Comfrey tincture Ginger tincture Charcoal tablets There's some OTC drugs too (shamefully said): Immodium, ibuprofen, and benadryl. Would love to get some epiephrene for bee stings. I can think of lots of other things that could go in there. If I had to cut down to something to carry in a pocket the oreganol or people paste would do, probably the oreganol as it's more compact. Guest guest
Hey , sorry it took me so long to say, but for anti-nausea you can not go wrong with ginger root. It has many uses, but I love it for any digestive complaints. Guest guest
Oh Janet my Janet Yeah, ginger is GREAT!! I had a senior moment in not remembering it. We always keep some on hand. I have a friend (really I do) that asked what she could take for lethargy. I suggested ginger tea from fresh organic ginger, and she loved it. Said it boosted her up, and warmed her up. Anywhoo, have a great weekend!! Peace, love, laughter " Owl, " said Rabbit shortly, " you and I have brains. The others have fluff. If there is any thinking to be done in this Forest - and when I say thinking I mean thinking - you and I must do it. > > Hey , sorry it took me so long to say, but for anti-nausea you can not > go wrong with ginger root. Guest guest
I find ginger tincture to be pretty useful stuff. Sometimes while cooking stirfries at friend's house I've opened up my medkit and hauled out the ginger and habanero tinctures to spice up the food. Used it medicinally too, quite good stuff to have on hand.
