Guest guest
Is there anything besides a foot soak you think Gloria might enjoy when she gets home? Maybe something like a nice lotion for her skin. I also can get some nice foot scrubs and foot masks too. I could even manage a nice face mask and scrub too. Do you think she would like something like this? I don't know her personally so I'm not sure of her tastes in this area. So if anyone of you who knows her better than I do, please let me know and I'll wait until November to mail it all out to her so maybe by that time she will be home. I just want to give her something to make her feel good. I know what its like to come home from the hospital and just want to get cleaned off and feel better and sometimes it's those little things that can make such a difference in how you " feel " . I can still remember how good it felt to have a nice foot soak and facial after that awful hospital stay. Oh and I have some lovely shea butter soap I think she might like too. Please, just let me know and I'll put together a nice little comfort package for her when she gets home. Thanks so much. Guest guest
I think she'd probably love any of those things. She is totally blown away at this point from all the love and support she has received, both from our list and from local people that she didn't even know until I found the advocate. Why don't you give her a call, Lynn? I know she'd love to hear from you. Just tell her you're from HAWK. Her number is 610-796-6110. I know she was lamenting this morning that she is taking such an allopathic route when she's definitely not an allopathic person. BUT, the choice has been taken from her by (1) her relative powerlessness due to her back injury and resultant diagnosis of cancer and (2) her lack of money. She's at the mercy of charity and is very grateful to have it, but is holding out mentally for a more holistic approach. We spoke about visualization (white light coming into the crown chakra and cleansing the body) and reading positive books...even reading fun escapist novels because they'll take her away from the situation. She just has to get someone to bring/send her the books... Guest guest
Sharyn - I have books. I would hate to send them to you and you then pay postage to forward - is Gloria in a position now to receive packages? Thanks! Guest guest
Okay then. Thank you. Maybe I'll try to give her a call and see what she might like the most. I have a lot of audio books that might be a bit easier for her to read (or listen to) to help keep her mind occupied. I can copy them to a disc and send them to her, depending on what she is interested in. Thanks so much again Hun. I'll do my best to try to cheer her up. Guest guest
HI Hun I just tried calling her and got no answer. Is there a good time of day or evening to reach her? If you're not sure then I'll just keep trying. You're such a sweetheart for doing this. Beannacht Lynn RE: Re: Gloria Update 10/12 >I think she'd probably love any of those things. Guest guest
Yes, Gloria can receive books. You can send them to her house at 18 Alpine Lane, Fleetwood, PA 19522, or you can call her at 610-796-6110 for the address of the rehab place. But books sent to her home will get to her also. Guest guest
I don't know her schedule, Lynn. She calls me when she gets the chance. Just keep trying, I think... I'm not sure if she has a CD player to listen to audio books. But you can ask her what she prefers. I just want to make sure she has something to keep her occupied while she's laid up. She's so used to being physical, and then was in too much pain to care, but now is much more comfortable and yet shut in...so books would be a welcome diversion. Thanks, Lynn! Guest guest
Sharyn - books I can handle! But do you still want us to hold off, even on books? If not, where should we send them? I will be glad to handle book orders or something like that so we don't all send her the same book or too many!!!! How can we work this out? Let me know what you think..............Shari
Guest guest
Another question on the books, what does she like? Mystery? Sci-fi? Romance? Biographies? Fiction? Non-fiction? Alternative healing? Cancer healing alternatives? She might not want to read some of these if she can't afford the procedures. I know it would make me very sad to have been forced into chemo and then read about other ways of healing. Shari
Guest guest
When we were talking today, we spoke about Abraham books (from the original The Secret movie)…she has all of them except the latest one (The Astonishing Power of Emotions), which I highly recommend. But I also think she’d appreciate anything which would give her some “escapism” from just lying in bed and thinking. I personally love romance, because no matter what hell the protagonists go through, there is always a happy ending. But anything *you* think is good and will give her an escape or some positive thought would be good, IMHO. Guest guest
I think it was Sharyn or Suzie who told me that she doesn't think Gloria has a CD/DVD player. Maybe I could get her one. They're not that expensive now and some of them come with both DVD and VHS together. So if she had a DVD to watch she could and then if she wanted to listen to an audio book she could do that too through the DVD player. She would hear the sound but no picture on the screen. I do that sometimes with ours and my audio books. Now that might be a good idea!!!! I have some lovely movies that I could copy for her and audio books I could copy for her as well. That might cheer her up. She does have a television right? I hope. Somebody let me know for sure before I go out and get this thing. ) I'd appreciate it. Guest guest
Make sure, if you buy one that it will play RWDVD (rewrite dvd) or something to that effect. Mine is an inexpensive dvd player and it won't play copies of anything, audior or video. Shari
Guest guest
Good point. I hadn't thought of that. Mine will play anything usually so I just didn't think. I'll make sure to look into that tidbit when shopping. I just want to make sure she has a TV first. I know some people who don't and won't own a tv set. So I just want to be sure. I remember when I came home from the hospital for the fourth and "last " back surgery last year, I just loved the feeling of a nice shower with my favorite soap and lotion and powder. Then It was just so nice to sit in my very small television room with my dogs and watch my movies I have on DVD. I'm just thinking that it might make Gloria feel good too, to just be able to have some nice things to pamper herself with and then set and watch something nice weather it be on TV or a DVD and just relax with a nice hot cup of tea or broth. It was so restful for me and I really think it would be nice for her too. Having been there myself in the past I just think it would be a nice thing to do for someone else going through it now. Also to know it came from all of her friends I'm sure will make her feel even happier and better. Just knowing someone cares is such a good feeling. I remember all of that and the feeling just can't be put into words. I just know having that feeling of love and comfort from her friends will help to get her back on track again. Guest guest
I don’t know if Gloria has a television. She probably has one at the rehab place. Why not give her a portable CD/DVD player, though? They’re a little more expensive, but you can also hook them up to a TV if you want to. So you get the best of both worlds. I would be happy to split the cost with you. And, if Gloria doesn’t have a TV at her house, I have one in my PA house that is just sitting there doing nothing. A nice sized one with a built-in VCR and DVD player. All we have to do is figure out how to get it to her. (The house is vacant and about 45+ minutes from Reading, where she is…and I’m in Florida.) OTOH, I just bought a very cheap portable CD player at BJ’s…I think it was only $20 or so. Might be the way to go.
