Dear Forum,

Announcement of STATE LEVEL ROUND-TABLE SHARING ON HIV/AIDS POLICY & PROGRAMS

FOR INDUSTRIES.

After a decade of successful HIV/AIDS education and intervention programs among

the high-risk category, many premier organizations have taken up the challenge

of addressing the issue in the larger context of the productive work-force of

India. The ILO estimates that at least 23 million workers in the prime labor

force ( aged 15 - 49 years ) are infected with HIV, that is about three -

quarters of all adults living with HIV/AIDS.

Corporate Houses such as L & T, Modicare Foundation have shaped up their own

HIV/AIDS workplace policy and have attempted to reach out to the community as

well through their specifically designed programs.

TANSACS, APAC, PSI, CII & ACILS have targeted the work-force through varying

approaches and coverage of their respective sectors. While some have involved

the management directly, others have attempted to reach the workers at the

grass-roots through Trade Unions or NGOs. The success stories and the

break-through of the methodology and tools in the most challenging arena of

educating the vast work-force of our land, need to be shared time and again, in

an attempt to enrich each other in their own respective field and strategy.

With this view in mind, Global Citizens Trust, under the sponsorship of ACILS,

has convened an one-day State-level Round-table Sharing Conference, for

Corporate Houses, Trade Unions and Premier Organizations in Chennai. The

specific objective will be a discussion on the existing HIV/AIDS Workplace

Policy at various industries and the impact of education programs among the

organized and unorganized workers.
