Guest guest
Hi : The main difference between the DOCband vs. a locally made helmet, is that the locally made helmet is " passive " like you mentioned. By saying Passive, it means that the helmet does not apply any pressure to your daughter's head, it is simply shaped round (like your daughter's head should be) which allows room for Leanna's head to grow into. Leanna's head will grow into the helmet as she hits growth spurts. The DOCband & STARband both apply very mild pressure to the child's head which retards the growth of the good side to an extent and helps push the flat side out, therefore they are both called " active " . Also the DOCband is made by Cranial Technologies which has specifically trained orthotists in treating plagio with clinics around the States, Spain & Canada.. A locally made helmet is made by your orthotist at your local hospital. My daughter wore both the STARband & DOCband so we do not have any experience with a " passive " helmet. There are several members of our group though who have or had used passive style helmets. I hope your trip goes well. Do you have family here in the States then? Will you need to fly to Boston for adjustments to the helmet or do you have an orthotist in London that will be able to do that? Best of luck with everything.
