Guest guest
Kay, We didn't have any trouble getting any of 's clothes over her head. The onesies with the snaps on the side were the best though. I can't believe there is a ped out there that actually said that the flatness might not correct on its own. Peds who feel that way are few and far between. Good for you ped! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma

Guest guest
Kay: Hi & welcome to our group! You have the same questions we've all had at one point during our child's journey to a rounder head! Let me say, you are lucky to be starting Jenna's helmet at such an early age. 4 mos is truely one of the best age to begin treatment. She will be hitting the most growth spurts in the next few mos., which will result in a lot of head growth, rounding it out! Your Dr. is right, it will be harder on you than it will be on Jenna. It is a difficult thing to see your child with this big piece of plastic on top of her head, I had a hard time for the first week or 2. It is quite rare for a baby to not adjust well to wearing a helmet. My daughter went about her happy life as usual. It didn't affect her sleep or mood one bit. After the first couple wks., I was totally used to seeing her in it, in fact, I thought she looked goofy w/o it on!!! Just remember that you are doing what's best for your daughter. It does not hurt her one bit! For decorating, most parents put stickers on the band. I tried to stay with holiday/season themes on Abby's bands. I loved decorating her band. It was so much fun for me! It gave me something to look forward to do with it. So many babies do not tolerate tummy time well. Try to put down many toys in front of her, or turn on a baby video that will maybe keep her interested. My daughter wore a DOCband for 4.5 mos - we began late as she was 11.5 mos old. We still had good improvement. There have been VERY few parents in this group who have not been happy with helmet/band results. I am so happy you found our group. Be sure to let us know when Jenna gets her helmet. Best of luck. For more information, check out www.plagiocephaly.org -this website has answers to every question you asked. Also has many good tips for tummy time that might help. Debbie Abby's mom DOCGrad MI > Hello Plagio Parents! I am so grateful to have found the website > before my daughter's diagnosis this week. It doesn't work with everything, but some. All his new outfits w/ t-shirts are going to be too small by the time the band comes off -- Joe O'Connor streams2oceans@... Guest guest
Question: do onesies fit over the helmet or do I need to plan to buy undershirts? Kay: Abby's onesies fit over her bands - you also might want to take into consideration, that when baby's are in the bands/helmets, they are warmer than usual, so you might want to consider not having her wear a onesie, except on those really cold days or nights. It depends on how hot she is. She will sweat a lot more in the beginning, usually for a week or so until her body temperature adjusts to wearing the helmet, then it will decrease. The butterfly design sounds very cute! The STARband offers a butterly design as well, it is really cute. Guest guest
Kay, We use a locally made helmet, and our orthotist has advised us to take it off during meal times and bath time. Usually these coincide with the times I change him so I just leave the helmet off until we're finished. Most of his cloths, however, due have a wide enough neck opening to go on right over the helmet. Additionally, we can dress him in many items feet first- more difficult, but it is possible! The butterfly design sounds adorable! ~, 's mom
Guest guest
We always did bathtime in the morning, so getting dressed was done while the band was off. I don't recall having any problems pulling shirts, etc. over the band at jammie time! Guest guest
Hello Kay, My son Garrett is 5 months old and has been wearing a locally made helmet for about a month. He had no problems with it at the beginning. The only thing he really didn't like was the casting for it, cold wet bandages - I wouldn't have like it much either. He has been doing great with it until recently. He has a reflux problem so when he is lying down and up chucks it goes into the helmet. The daycare didn't notice that he had thrown up last week and when we took the helmet off for his hour of freedom, we noticed that his head had started to blister and was red. He had to leave it off for a week to let it heal. We had a weekly fitting today and the chap told us to make sure that we cleaned it with alcohol as this will kill bacteria. Also he advised us to be careful what we put on his head in the way of lotions because he had craddle cap, we were using baby oil. It is a full helmet with the vent holes in the top. We noticed a difference in the first week. Good luck to you and Jenna when you get yours, I am sure she will be fine :-) Mum to Garrett (5 months) > Hello Plagio Parents!
