How long to get a band, etc..

Hello all--

I was just wondering.... once you decided on using a band, 1) How did you

choose between DOC and Star or something else? 2) Did it take a while to get

into those places to get the band made??, 3) Is it a long process?

My daughter first wore a STARband. We chose that mainly becuz I was

clueless about what options were out there . Also, we rec'd her

STARband from my local hospital 10 mins from my home & was less

expensive. Abby was casted for her STARband the first week of Oct

2000, we did not receive the band until 11/7/00. We waited nearly 5

wks for the band from the casting, which was too long of a wait in my

opinion, but I'm sure some of that was becuz of insurance approval.

Anyhoo, Abby's STARband was not good. Her othotist was not well

trained in treating plagio babies with the product. She wore the

STARband nearly 3 mos with no improvement at all.

We then switched to the DOCband. We had 4 hr one way drives and paid

more, but it was SO worth it. We rec'd Abby's DOCband 2 wks after

she was casted. We rec'd 50-60% correction in 4.5 mos time, she

didn't begin til she was 11.5 mos old - so I was thrilled wtih the

results.

I saw your reply that you're close to a Cranial Tech./DOCband clinic,

so that's probably what you'll be getting if you decide on one.

Usually Cranial Tech. can get you in for a casting w/i a week or so

after you call. You first need a prescription for the band. The

casting takes about 10 mins., yes it feels like an eternity! But it

really is quick & totally painless to your child. Babies get upset &

cry becuz they're being held down & their eyes are covered to protect

them from getting plaster in them.
