Guest guest
: Alberta Health Care covered everything for us! ) No forms, no run around. Kendra Canadian Parents I am reading about all these insurance problems in the states and I am wondering, I am just assuming like everything else, that our health care will cover the band and/or surgery - am I wrong in assuming this? I will have to look into my hubby's insurance if it isn't-For more plagio info

Guest guest
, Sorry, I'm not from Canada, but I just wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear how frustrating things have been for you trying to get with the specialist. I can't understand their rationale either - if you wait until she is 2 then it will be too late. I'm sure you will get some good advice and input from some of our Canadian parents and I hope their suggestions will help. Sorry about the roadblocks you are experiencing. I know that is not a consulation to you, but believe when I say there are TONS of American doctors that don't listen either and the American healthcare system is in very, very bad shape in my opinion. Good luck and keep us posted! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma

Guest guest
: If you see the team at the University Hospital, you should be OK. That is where they do the DOC Band. Anyone who knows anything about the band will not tell you to wait until she's 2!!! Do you have an appt. yet? Kendra in Calgary Canadian Parents I was looking through the database, and I too am from Canada. I quickly noticed that the majority of Canadians were waiting to see doctors, or waiting for bands, or that they were just getting started at a late age, or who know what.My DD is 18 months and the ped is so stupid and we are waiting to see the neuro-surgeon in Edmonton we saw when she was born - the ped says he will prabably tell me to wait until she is two as well. She has moderate plagio. He also said they don't beleive in banding,My question to all you Canadians is are all of you having the same frustrations with our doctors? Do they all have the same opinion? Why is it that the Americans seem to be able to convince their doctors to do something, while our doctors won't listen.Has anyone had these problems too? Also - anyone in Edmonton - have you seen the neuro-surgeon Dr. Aronyk. we had him for her fractured skull at birth and my ped seems to thing Dr. Aronyk is just gonna tell me to wait till she is two as they give them until their bones fuse to see what happens (which I dont understand cause by then it is WAY too late for banding)-Frustrated Canadian Mom of KayleighFor more plagio info

Guest guest
Hi , I am from Vancouver and had dealings with both Edmonton and Calgary to see who could do a DOC band for my son - I was trying to get the earliest possible appointment. Anyway, I had very good dealings with one of the orthotists (?) at the DOC clinic in Edmonton, but unfortunately I can't remember her name. But I would phone the clinic directly and find out which neuro (or ped) they get referrals from and try to get an appt with him/her. Remember you don't need to get the prescription from a neuro, a pediatrician is fine (or a gp for that matter I think). Good luck and let me know if I can help in any way.
