Guest guest
Jill, definitely had some changes in her personality after she hit 12 months or so. She has always been pretty high maintenance, but the temper tantrums and bursting into tears occurred after the first year. is no stranger to timeout, we don't use it a whole bunch, but when we do it is quite effective. She knows what we mean when we say " do you need a timout " - sometimes that is all it takes to cut the tears and head off the temper tantrum. I think she had her first time out when she was about 14 months old. We put her in a chair and told her she was in timout and that she was to stay put. We waited outside the door for about 1 minute just to make sure she did not get up and then went in and asked her if she was ready to rejoin us. The biggest challenge is making sure they stay put in the chair! 's daycare uses timeout as well so that has helped to solidify the process with our little one. Sometimes when she is pitching a fit we simply leave the room she is having the fit in without any acknowledgment. When she realizes the audience is gone she usually quits and comes to find us. That has worked really well for us. It hasn't completely eliminated the tantrums, but at least she realizes they aren't effective. Good luck and let us know if you find any magical cures!!!!
