Hi,

My daughter, Cassidy, is almost 14 months old. She was casted for

the DOC band yesterday. Previously, we had a passive locally made

helmet (treatment began the beginning of October). We discontinued

using the helmet in December because it was never fitted properly. I

complained at every adjustment, but it was never corrected to my

satisfaction. The helmet always turned to one side and almost rested

on one of her ears. I'm in the process of complaining to the company

about the quality of care we received. I don't know what the outcome

will be – a representative left a message last week saying he wanted

to resolve this, but I haven't heard from him since. Anyway, the

orthotist at Cranial Technologies couldn't believe how the helmet

fit. She thinks (but can't be sure) it may have caused my daughter's

head to grow up rather than out. She took pictures with the helmet

on showing the improper fit and is sending it in so people in her

company can examine it. She says they like to document examples of

helmets that don't work. I only wish we had known about the DOC band

earlier so we could have avoided the problems with the helmet. Now,

we have to correct what the helmet has messed up in addition to try

to correct some of the plagio. I'm hoping we can get some

correction. I know the band has helped older children in this

group.

Toni:

Hi & welcome to our group :). Your story sounds eerily similar to

mine & my daughter Abby's. It really is soooooo irritating when you

trust someone to care for your daughter & they actually end up making

her head worse. Been there. And what the most frustrating thing to

me was, the wasted precious time. Time is the most important thing

with these helmets/bands. My daughter's head will never be like it

could have been or should be.

I highly suggest you get your money back for the helmet. I don't

know if you paid for any of it, but demand a full refund. It's the

least they can do for you. I got a refund for my daughter's bad

STARband.

On a brighter note though, I am guessing you're getting Cassidy's

DOCband from their Chicago clinic. They are fantastic people.

That's the exact same thing I did after my daughter's STARband did

not work. We switched her into a DOCband at 11.5 mos - she rec'd

good correction in 4.5 mos time. They are experts there.

Be sure you keep us updated on Cassidy's DOCband progress. You'll be

happy with her results!
