We called the orthotist this morning about the fact that it slides

down so far and he said that was normal right now because the helmet

does not fit her because it is not supposed to fit her, her head will

grow to fit it and then the whole thing will be better. He said we

want it as far down on her forehead as possible? Does this sound

right? Plus now I am wondering about the tort side of her face that

is flat and the chin strap pushing on it and not helping it to fill

out? I am also wondering that if with time she will begin to look

side to side again, right now the helmet is cumbersome and she won't

rotate when we try to get her to look to the tort side.

:

Abby's 1st band (the STARband) came very low down on her forehead.

It really bothered/annoyed me. I kept asking the orthotist about it

& he said it's supposed to be like that, like yours said, mainly

becuz they didn't want to shave too much away becuz she would soon

grow into it & didn't want her to outgrow it quickly. He eventually

did trim some of the plastic down from it, it was interfering with

her vision some which I didn't feel was right, so I insisted he trim

it a bit. Just the little trim that he did helped tremendously. If

you're uncomfortable with it & you feel it is interfereing with

Grace's vision or causing her any discomfort, then insist some of it

is trimmed.

As for your tort questions go, I'm sorry I can't offer any advice on

that. Abby didn't have tort so I'm not familiar with it at all. I'm

sure plenty of our other parents can help you with that!

I'm glad you had a friendly first encounter with a nice person! It

does make it so much easier. On my first trip out with Abby in her

band, I ran into another helmeted baby at JC Penneys! I couldn't

beleive it! The mom & I chatted like we were old friends. Abby & I

were the first other plagio people she had met & her son had been in

his band for 3 mos.. It was very relieving for the both of us.

You'll get used to the stares as time goes on. Tell yourself that if

you saw a helmeted baby in the store, you would probably stare too if

you didn't know what the helmet was for. It's human nature to stare

at something that is " different " .

I hope things are going better for you & you're feeling better about

all of this.
