However, now that he

is straight, I am noticing some assymetry. (I

really only noticed it when I held him in the mirror) His right ear

(tort side) sticks out a bit and one cheek (left) seems a little

bigger than the other. He does have mild plagio (both doctor and PT

say it isn't bad and have had be doing repositioning techniques)...

my question is: Does this assymetry correct itself as they grow and

as they continue with a straightened head.....or do you think this is

something that requires a helmet??

Hi :

Assymetries are often the hardest effect of plagio for even a

helmet/band to fully correct. My daughter graduated from her DOCband

but still has slight assymetries, they definitely got better with the

band, but are still noticeable to just me, especially in the mirror

(darn mirrors!). The puffier cheek, smaller eye, those are effects of

plagio, I first noticed my daughter's puffier cheek.

You wonder if it will correct itself in time, that's a tough

question. Something that you won't find out until Fishcer grows.

Getting a band or helmet is ultimately your decision to make. If his

case is mild, then definitely continue with the repositioning that

you're currently doing. If you haven't noticed much improvement over

the next couple mos or so, then you might want to consider a helmet

or band. You might want your ped. to refer you to a pediatric

neurosurgeon. The ped. neuro could evaluate Fischer and maybe give

you some measurements on his assymetries (mine didn't though).

Try not to worry too much about this. It sounds like you're a great

mom. I'm so glad to hear his tort has improved so much. That's

terrific. Give your ped. a call first thing Monday & see what he

suggests.

Please keep us updated on Fischer.
