helmet with chin strap

Ok I am having some problems with this helmet. Does anybody else have

one with a chin strap? Also the orthotist said that the back of the

helmet when you look down from the top should have spaces so that her

head will round out on the back and then the tort side pushes it for

the side that drifts. but when I look down all I see are spaces in

the front. Wont that mean that the back is pushing to the front and

will make her forehead portrude? Also I am still concerned about the

chin strap and her facial asymmetry, I am wondering if the orthotist

will even know what that is if I call him and ask him about that

pushing on her face? Ok just had to vent and see if anyone is having

similar problems?? Thanks

I have heard of many locally made helmets that have chin straps.

I've never heard of any side effects the strap had. I wouldn't worry

too much about it. BUT, if it's really bothering you, would it be ok

if the orthotist took/cut the chin strap off? Or does the strap have

a major part of holding the helmet on Grace's head? I know I

wouldn't have liked Abby wearing a helmet with a chin strap. Just a

thought.

There should be a gap in the flat area of her head in the helmet, not

in the front like you described. Could it possibly have been the way

her head was positioned that made the helmet push toward the front?

Or was she sitting on your lap when you looked at it with no pressure

on her helmet at the time?

I would suggest you call your orthotist Monday & ask to be seen. It

sounds like you need a lot more details on her helmet. It's not

uncommon for several appts in the first few wks of babies in the

helmet/band. It's so hard to get the perfect fit & parents are so

stressed about it.

Let us know what you do.
