Guest guest
We saw the specialist today. Preston has mild/moderate plagio with possible tort which the P.T. will diagnose. This was all as we suspected. Preston is 5 mo. old and they won't fit him with a helmet until he is 6 mo. old. So we are going to continue to reposition so it won't get worse. She said they see alot of head shape improvement with the helmets but the ear misalignment and the facial assymetry will not improve. The forehead bossing may improve. We were disappointed as we had hoped for more improvement. But we will take what we can get. We are going to get the helmet regardless of whether or not our insurance covers it. I feel so discouraged now and dread at doing the helmet. But at least you all seem to feel that your kids don't mind it as much as you do. Thanks again for all the info and encouragement. Guest guest
, I don't mean to question your specialist, but I can't believe they said the facial assymetry will not improve. I am going to have to say that I am skeptical about that. I don't think I have heard anyone in this group (including the people who used helmets - like me) say that their specialist said the facial assymetry would not improve. I think you will find that this is not completely correct. Maybe the ears won't correct as much as one would like, but I think the facial assymetry will. Please remain hopeful - I think it will be better then they say. As far as how Preston will handle it - he will handle it like a champ! It is true that the babies don't seem to care at all - it's the parents who struggle with it! This proves to be true 9.9 times out of 10! The PT will help with the correction as well if there is some tort present. Between the PT and repositioning you might be even happier with his head shape in a month! Good wishes to you - I know what a struggle this is for you and you have the support of this group no matter how things work out. Guest guest
, Just wanted to chime in and agree with Marci that for most, the band or helmet has helped with the asymmetry getting major correction. The band totally changed the alignment of my son's ears, one was sliding off his head at first start, now they are almost perfectly symmetrical. I would really question the ortho- it does not sound like a whole lot of experience if they are contradicting what a lot of parents are saying. Ask for before and after pics and really question their expertise. It's your right to know every last detail! ' Mom
