Guest guest
Hi there- We too had a hard time making the decision to band our son. He finally got banded at 8 months becuase repositioning hadn't helpe. He had been on his belly both sleeping and crawling at 5-6 months. What really helped us to decide was going to Cranial Tech and getting the measurements. It was hard for us to see because he is perfect in our eyes but the numbers don't lie and we knew it was the right decision. We are paying $3, 000 because CIGNA of NC denied our appeals (so far!...) but it has really helped him and it doesn't bother his to wear it at all. Whatever you decide will be the best for your baby but if you want call CT, or your local helmet ortho and ask for a consultation and measurements. Good Luck!! - mom of Owen 4/2/01 banded 12/5/01 ksasten <k.sasten@...> wrote: I am interested to know if anyone has had success with a wait and see approach. Our daughter was diagnosed with "mild to moderate" plagiocephaly at 4 months and we have seen some improvement over the last two months with repositioning. At six months, however, her head is still flatter on the left side although not as bad. The doctor said that her hair may eventually hide the slight flatness or we could fit her for a helmet ($1600 out of pocket). Anyone had any success with a head rounding out on its own? We are having a really hard time with this decision! For more plagio info
Guest guest
Hello and welcome to the group! It's good to hear that you have had some success with repositioning - that's excellent. I would imagine that you would continue to see improvement from aggressive repositioning over the next few months as well. Does your daughter have any facial assymetry or ear misalignment? I think that would be a big factor in my decision to band or not band. If there is no facial assymetry or ear misalignment I would be more comfortable continuing the repositioning. If there was facial assymetry or ear misalignment I think I would lean more heavily towards banding. That is just my own personal feelings on the matter. To band or not to band is an intensely personal decision - it's all about what you are comfortable with. We have parents here who did not band or took a wait and see approach. Some waited and then decided to band, some waited and felt that the correction they were getting with repositioning was enough. I can understand how this would be quite a struggle for you, but in the end you will surely make the right choice for your baby and your family. Go with your gut instinct. That mommy instinct is a very powerful thing and rarely leads you in the wrong direction. Let us know what you decide to do and we will support your decision no matter what it is! Good luck! Guest guest
Just some more info on my daughter: After two months of re- positioning her facial assymetry is completely gone. Her cheeks are now fairly similar and her ears are exactly the same distance from her nose. The flatness of her head has improved by almost a full centimeter, but is still considered mild to moderate. We are also dealing with Aetna PPO for insurance and getting quite a run-around on whether it will be covered or not. They told us it will take a month to review our case. Anyone else dealing with Aetna? Karyn (mom to ) Duvall, WA- -- In Plagiocephaly@y..., marcisch@a... wrote: > Hello and welcome to the group! Guest guest
Wow Karyn! It sounds like repositioning has worked very well for you! I think that would make the decision just that more difficult. With all the success you have had thus far with repositioning it is possible that you would get all you needed/wanted with that method alone! Anyways - it is great that you were able to correct the facial assymetry and ear misalignment with repositioning. Good luck with your decision!
