Guest guest
Good Morning, Yesterday, we took to the neurosurgeon. He too suggested helmet therapy for . (We went to a neurologist 10 days ago). He said her plagio was moderate and being that she will be 6 months old this month we should move forward. I have no objections with trying to make my daughter the best that she can be. He torticollis is improving but until she works that out entirely, she truly needs to have " extra " help to stay off that side of her. And being that she is in daycare 8 hours a day/5 days a week; I can be assured that her condition will not worsen. He did say that over time he does believe it will work itself out without helmet therapy. Her right cheeck is fuller then the left and her left eye is alittle smaller then the other. The effects are not that dramatic to the average person but to me and a doctor it is notable. But, the band is " insurance " that it will be corrected as much as possible (30%)and of course quicker. He recommended a localy made band. It is called Nic Band. It is approved by the FDA. We go Monday for an evaluation/consultation. He feels she will only need about 3 months of wearing. The first neurologist suggested a full helmet and 6 months. I am going with the band because I prefer the open top. Sorry so long just wanted to update everyone. Once again, thanks for the support and information. I believe this group made me stronger for my dr. visit yesterday and gave me more knowledge to ask better questions. Are there any questions I should make sure I ask the orthotist on Monday? Take care, Dina and (NY)
Guest guest
Hey Dina and so glad things went well and you feel good about the decision and road that lies ahead of you. I can see your point about the day care issue I have seen that come up so often on the board where it is difficult to get the day care to understand fully so having the helmet will certainly be helpful in that area. The only questions I can think of are attached at this link-others may be able to give you more info. Good luck and let us know how your appointment goes. Guest guest
Dina, I know this decision will make life a little less stressful for you: is also in daycare and it was so stressful coming in and seeing that he was on his flat spot (it is very hard with a tort child to stay on top of them being off of it- much less with other children to watch, it is inevitable in my opinion that they will be on it at some point in the day- without your knowledge). This was such a huge relief for us, and it really worked out well. had the asymmetry as well and his 3 months in the band did wonders! CT didn't want the daycare to necessarily know how to take the band off for fear they would take it off and leave it off- but I showed them and they were very conscientious about keeping it on. Good luck! ' Mom
