Guest guest
Hi Plagio Support Friends! I just want to say how grateful I am for this support group! I have received a number of responses to my questions and I appreciate that a lot. I also want to give a quick update on how we are treating my son Zach's Plagiocephaly. He has to wear his band at night only because his glasses won't fit under the band (we tried everything; and we found out that the babies that do wear the band and glasses wear a smaller and closer fitting pair of glasses than Zach can wear since he is older and his glasses can't even be attached to more flexible straps to be attached around his head under the helmet because then they would not sit on his nose correctly....frustrating, huh!?!?). So he wears his glasses during the day, his band at night and every 3-4 weeks we are going to see a DO that specializes in cranial sacral therapy. We are hoping the combination of both these therapies will help him. Zach's orthotist said " you should invent a pair of glasses or piece of plastic to make those glasses work with the helmet so you could make a small fortune... " I said, " or alteast make enough money to pay off the band...ha! " Needless to say, now I am in the process of writing my appeals letter to the insurance company. From what I have heard from several of you, it is going to be a long process, but it will be worth it. Especially if it helps parents get this covered in the future without any problems. I still can't believe my insurance company will cover a $25,000 surgery to correct this condition but they won't cover the $600 band. That makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? Thanks again to all of you, especially those of you who have shared your stories and suggestions with me. Lou (Zach's mom)
Guest guest
Lou: Thanks for the update. I'm sure Zach will still see correction while wearing his band just at night. That really is a bummer that he can't wear glasses & helmet at the same time, but it does make since why not now. I hope things go well for you with the DO and the therapy. Like I said before, I've heard so many good things about it. Be sure you let us know how it goes. Yet another struggle with insurance. Good luck with that fight too, appeal, appeal appeal!!!!
