Guest guest
, it can take a while to see results to lower your BP. Any particular reason you're against BP meds? I had been having headaches (sometimes killer), I was irritable, I had a 'quick fuse', etc. I just felt overall unwell. Went to the doc last June and my BP was 165/98. I was put on a very small dose of Benazepril. Within 3 days, I felt 100% better. I was told it was a GOOD thing I hadn't been exercising because in theory, I could have 'stroked out' with such high BP to begin with (goes up when you exercise). I am NOT a medication person, believe me. Having to go on BP meds was really hard for me. But it did make me wake up and realize that unless I wanted to have a whole host of health problems within 15 years, I had to take responsibility and do it NOW. And I can't tell you how much better I felt after going on the meds. No other side effects, just felt better. In fact, I didn't realize how bad I felt until I got on them and began to feel better. Can you get an Omron monitor for at home? I got my automatic one at Walgreen's on sale for $35. Omron is the most accurate, if I remember right. You can get manual ones at WalMart for fairly inexpensive. They're a bit of a pain, but it'd do the job (my hand gets sore having to pump so fast). I've lost almost 60 pounds and I'm only just now able to consider going off the BP med. I will do it when we get back from our vacation if all goes as planned. (And I'll go off the BCP, too, and will be med-free again--yay!) Some people only have to drop about 10% of their body weight before they see a difference, though. Mine was just so darn high to start with! I'm glad you're not giving up. I think it's perfectly understandable that you're down. I was, too. Deep down, I thought that I was fat, but healthy. When I had to keep going back to get retested for high BP I found out that simply wasn't true. Bought a home monitor to prove it was just 'white coat syndrome'--wound up proving that even in a relaxed state, it was way too high. That's when it sunk in. Then I needed it to monitor how well (if?) the medication was working. I would really consider going to the doctor. You'd be able to discuss your options then. If your BP is always high, I just don't know how safe it is to raise it by exercising. And once my BP went down because of the meds, I actually felt like exercising. I felt a thousand times better. I've had maybe three headaches since last June. The irritable, short-fused Bonnie disappeared. Honestly, I'm not a pill pusher, I just want you to feel better and be safe!!! -Bonnie
Guest guest
-- Go to the doctor. Take the meds. The alternative is to have a stroke. You won't enjoy your life after that. My maternal grandmother had her first stroke when she was 43. My motivation to lose weight came when I hit that age & my blood pressure was in the "stroke" zone. I know the quality of life my grandmother had the last 20+ years of her life. You aren't doing yourself or your family any favors if you are putting your health & life at risk for a stroke. Guest guest
I have bp probs, my doctor put me on Micardis. It's no big thing, just makes me pee a lot, most bp meds do, so you'll get rid of bloat! If your bp is becoming a prob please let your doc treat you, your alternative is a stroke or heart attack :(Jase4567@... wrote: I sit here befuttled. Guest guest
>first time was 206/141 second one was 199/127 Whoa! Hopefully you're following doctor's orders on how to bring it down and can have your procedure done soon. Are you monitoring it yourself at home? Guest guest
I am holding at 230 right now. BUT I saw bikes there that were designed for big people. I bought the middle of the road. Not a moutain bike BUT a sterdy one. I did get a new seat that was a bit wider. You could always buy one and use it as a goal if you are not comfortable on one. I can tell you I felt like a fool BUT with a little adjust with the height of the seat I am doing it. NH... Guest guest
I got one a few weeks ago...it's a mountain bike, 18 speed...I LOVE IT! Feel so free...nice to go out on it with DH when the weather is good enough and cruise around. Plus, it beats walking to work!!!! I can't wait for summer - the ride isn't long enough to work up a sweat, but if ya go fast enough it'll cool ya down! There is no shade to walk in between home and work, so walking killed me last summer! Plus, I'm allergic to bees, and I can outrun them now! Enjoy the bike! And congrats!
