Guest guest
Hi , I'm sorry it's been a frustrating time for you, I know all of this can be very stressful. Like your son, my daughter had a flat spot on her left side, and I didn't worry about it because my son had a flat head and the ped kept telling me it would round out on its own. Well luckily, his did, but my ped showed more concern over my daughter's flat head because it was on one side only. Her torticollis was making her slump to her left, and that was the only side she would ever lay on. To tell you the truth, I didn't notice anything until other people started to point it out. Anyways, my daughter was also 5 months when she began to wear the STARband, and we've heard it's a great time to start. Don't blame yourself for not knowing what was going on, it's harder for parents to see those things, and it's not too late for you to get help for your son. We've already seen a little improvement, and are really grateful we chose to do this for Abby. Hope everything goes well for you. Keep us posted! Guest guest
Hi & welcome to our group!! We all understand your frustration and anger. Your story is similar to so many of our parents in the group. SOOO many pediatricians play off plagio as no big deal, he'll outgrow it, or hair will cover the flatness. You have no reason to feel any guilt toward yourself though. Your son is very young yet, so IF a helmet or band is needed, he's young enough to get good & fast correction. You already have an appt with a specialist so you are doing everything right. Have you tried repositioning him while he's sleeping at night? Check out www.plagiocephaly.org for SO much helpful information. There's also a section in there for questions to ask the Dr. that you might want to check out before your appt Friday with the specialist. There are probably several local hospitals in your area where you could receive either a STARband made by Orthomerica or a locally made helmet. Be sure you stay with us to keep us updated on your son's progress. Let us know how the appt with your specialist goes on Friday. Again, check out www.plagiocephaly.org for so much wonderful info.. Guest guest
Hi and welcome to the group! You sure have come to the right place to vent your frustrations and ask your questions. Unfortunately, your story is very familiar to so many of us with the peds. saying that its no big deal or that the head will round out on its own. I had asked my ped on 2 seperate occassions about the shape of my twins heads, and each time he told me that once they started to move around more then their heads will start to round out. It wasn't until my mom was babysitting for us and she's the one that noticed that my daughter's ears were getting out of whack. After that I kept pushing until we were finally given the rx for the bands. But I can remember the extreme feelings of guilt that I had, I kept thinking if only I had held them more, if only I knew how important tummy time was, I even got mad at myself for not being a bigger person...if I was bigger then the twins wouldn't have been so squished while in utero. I totally beat myself up over this, but with the help of this group I learned that its not my fault and I wasn't to blame for their plagio. And you know what, you're not to blame either!!! You are seeking out treatment for your son's plagio and that is very commendable! I know its easier said than done, but please don't feel that you are at fault! I'm really glad that you found us, , and I hope you continue to stick with us! You will not find a greater group of parents! Let us know how it goes on Friday!
