So, if you don't mind, could you please tell me the following:

1. How old was your child when they started wearing the DocBand or

helmet?

3.5 months

2. How long has your child been wearing the band or helmet (or how

long did your child end up wearing it, if you are finished with it)?

3 months

3. Did or does your child have tort too? How long did that treatment

take and what kind of treatment did he/she have?

no he did not have tort he had tightenning of the neck muscles which we did stretches at home for with positive results but never had formal PT intervention

4. Did your insurance pay for any part of the plagio treatment? If

so, how much and what insurance do you have?

covered the DOC and we had United at the time- I am not sure anymore becasue we moved but I think it was united

5. How much improvement did you see or have you seen from the helmet?

90-95% correction I would say

6. If you decided not to use a helmet or band, please tell us how

much success you had and how you went about it?

we tried repositioning initially but brian didnt cooperate with that so we werent real successful other moms have had good success and can help you with that one I hope

FYI - I haven't even gotten Emilie's xray results yet, so I cannot

answer these questions yet except to say that she does have tort and

has been in PT for almost a month (twice a wk)with great success (she

only has to go for another month or so).

wore a helmet and she started at 9 months.

2. How long has your child been wearing the band or helmet (or how

long did your child end up wearing it, if you are finished with it)?

She wore it for just over 6 months.

3. Did or does your child have tort too? How long did that treatment

take and what kind of treatment did he/she have?

No tort was ever diagnosed

4. Did your insurance pay for any part of the plagio treatment? If

so, how much and what insurance do you have?

Insurance paid 80% under my durable medical equipment coverage (DME). They

only paid after I went through all appeal levels and then filed for an

External Review to be conducted. The external review ruled that they had to

pay. It was Healthcare Oklahoma (a division of WellCor America)

5. How much improvement did you see or have you seen from the helmet?

We did not get 100%, but she looks good to me!

6. If you decided not to use a helmet or band, please tell us how

We, of course, did use a helmet. We have had people here who did not, but

I'm not sure if any of them are still active members. I remember one member

used a soft, flexible " helmet " that was only worn at night and was basically

a repositioning helmet. It was actually a very interesting concept. Others

have gotten the correction they wanted through repositioning only. We have

also had people who used cranial-sacral therapy and chiropractics to aid in

correcting the plagio.

Hope this helps!

Here are my answers to your poll.

I am new here and just trying to gather some information. I knowthere is a poll section to this site, but I can't seem to find out theresults. So, if you don't mind, could you please tell me the following:1. How old was your child when they started wearing the DocBand orhelmet? 7 mos./StarBand

2. How long has your child been wearing the band or helmet (or howlong did your child end up wearing it, if you are finished with it)? Started therapy full-time on August 22, 2001 (He has been in it for almost 4 mos.)

3. Did or does your child have tort too? How long did that treatmenttake and what kind of treatment did he/she have? Yes, he had tort (his tort is resolved) PT now working on jaw asymmetry and strengthing the non-tort side (right side) and correcting that nasty tilt - Started PT on July 10, 2001 - He is still in therapy now (2X a month)

..4. Did your insurance pay for any part of the plagio treatment? Ifso, how much and what insurance do you have? Yes, my insurance paid for it in full. The band was $1,500.00, but now I understand they are approx. $2,500.00. My insurance company is self-funded by the company I work for. It was covered under -- Orthotics and Prosthetics (Equip.)

5. How much improvement did you see or have you seen from the helmet? His head shape looks great!! We are extremely pleased!! Although, his orthotist said he will still be in it for a couple more months!!

6. If you decided not to use a helmet or band, please tell us howmuch success you had and how you went about it? NA

FYI - I haven't even gotten Emilie's xray results yet, so I cannotanswer these questions yet except to say that she does have tort andhas been in PT for almost a month (twice a wk)with great success (sheonly has to go for another month or so). Thanks so much for your help. IT is so hard (and time consuming) tosearch for this information in all of the old posts!!! AnnMarie and (01/25/01 :) -- Hang in There!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aetna paid 100% for 2 DOC Bands

We saw lots of improvement with the DOC Band,

especially with the facial asymmetry. She still has

some flatness on the right back of her head. I hope

that it will continue to " fill in " .

DOC band 2/12/01 - 8/2/01

You should be able to see all results of each poll after you vote in each one. Make sure you VOTE FIRST (click on the poll you are interested in viewing), then be sure to scroll down to see all of the results.

A week shy of 5 months old.

2. How long has your child been wearing the band or helmet (or how

long did your child end up wearing it, if you are finished with it)?

wore it for approximately 3 months

3. Did or does your child have tort too? How long did that treatment

take and what kind of treatment did he/she have?

Tort dx at 2 mnths, therapy started at 3 months- finished with formal pt at 9 months- but his was pretty severe and he had the "lump" which was a blood mass created from tearing the tight muscle.

4. Did your insurance pay for any part of the plagio treatment? If

so, how much and what insurance do you have?

Fortunate in that Neighborhood Health covered 100% of$3,000 cost.

5. How much improvement did you see or have you seen from the helmet?

My guess is 90-95%- totally helped the facial asymmetry and ear misalignment.

6. If you decided not to use a helmet or band, please tell us how

N/A- but as members will tell you, some have done great with repositioning and has definetly worked for some if started early enough- I think this is harder with a tort baby as they constantly favor one side.
