Guest guest
I am a big big fan of the DOLLAR menu at mcdonalds. I buy the $1 burgers for the races. I just make sure I only eat 1 or 2. No fries and diet drink. Eat very good in the morning and no big lunch. Usually fruit. BUT they do now have a side salad for a buck. NH... Guest guest
>then my sister in law wanted to go to Mcs instead of getting my usual 2 double cheeseburgers and fry I got a Grilled Chicken sandwich and no fries. Well I just looked it up online a Grilled Chicken sandwich has 410 calories and 9 grams of fat, and a double cheeseburger has 460 calories and 22 grams of fat. Yes the chicken is better but not by much. Normally I would grab a regular vault or a pepsi, so overall I guess I made pretty good choices considering what I had to work with. > Yes, but you had ONE grilled chicken sandwich - not two, right? And NO fries. Even the *small* fries (and who ever gets the small?) are 250 calories and 13g of fat saved! The large are a whopping 570 calories and 30g of fat. Now, admittedly, one of the salads with a low-fat dressing would have been your best choice - but, it's over and done with and there's always next time to get it right. > I already told the girls no more fried foods we were making out a grocery list and the first thing they said was fried chicken.. I told them no more fried chicken we can make baked or maybe get the shake n bake or something. Good for sticking to your guns! Oh, and shake-and-bake really isn't /that/ much better for you than fried, likely. Processed carb stuff! I crush up triscuit whole-wheat crackers for a crunch oven-baked chicken. It's lower Gi than breadcrumbs and I find it to be crunchier, too. You could even try some of the new flavored ones such as the rosemary & olive oil! > Anyhow I feel really good lately.. I feel like we are moving in the right direction and so far it seems to be going ok.. > > SulaBlue

You made a conscious effort to eat healthier. You just need to tweak that a bit. Next time get it without mayo and you'll save even more calories and fat. > I already told the girls no more fried foods we were making out a grocery > list and the first thing they said was fried chicken.. I'm looking at the Cooking Healthy with Kids in Mind right now. I don't see my kids going for any of this stuff but I think it will help that the book is supposedly for kids. I can force them to pick some recipes to try. They are way too picky. > Anyhow I feel really good lately.. I feel like we are moving in the right > direction and so far it seems to be going ok.. Great! Getting motivated is half the battle. Ann

And I almost always get the Grilled classic chicken (no mayo) when we go to McD's. *shrugs* Throw some mustard on there and it's really good! > I'm looking at the Cooking Healthy with Kids in Mind right now. Mine are, too. Pizza, hot dogs (*shudders*), PBJ, grilled cheese, pasta. That's about all they really like. However, once I made them try a few bites of each meal out of that cookbook, they wound up liking 'em I will say, though, that because they've never had 'white' bread or pasta, they do love the whole wheat stuff. They get the chunky health-food-store type bread and they don't really like white bread or pasta. *shrugs* They eat well, all things considered. I never introduced most junk foods. Anyway...off to go grocery shopping -Bonnie
Guest guest
Hi ! I would have thought the grilled chicken would have been better, too. Oh well! I have heard that the Asian chicken salad at McD's is very good and low in points if you use the dressing sparingly. That was shared at a WW meeting I was at. Just in case you end up there again and want to try it. At the bread outlet its only 1.00 a loaf so that is much better then the grocery store. > > I already told the girls no more fried foods we were making out a grocery list and the first thing they said was fried chicken..
