Hi Alisha. Welcome to the group. My son, , is now a little over a year old, and I first noticed his plagio at 2 months as well. I first noticed it when I would look at him in the mirror. In fact, that was the only way I could notice it at first. My son was sunny side up too, and was stuck in the birth canal for four hours and eventually delivered successfully with the use of forceps. I, myself, have reason to believe that this caused my son's tort and resulted in plagio. He refused to turn his head to the left when he was very little and his head would automatically dart to the right when laid on his back. I also think this was due to the nurses in the NICU telling me to put him on his right side if I put him down to sleep after feeding. (When he was little, he always went down to sleep after feeding.) But due to a lot of wasted time by doctors, my son did not get his helmet until his first birthday. He will probably be in it until he is 18 months (when the head usually stops rounding out) As an older child, believe me, he is hating it royally. He does okay during the day, but naptime and bedtime is hell. Your child is at an advantage because he is younger and will be in and out of the helmet in just a few months most likely, and he will not mind it nearly as much as my son does. My son is walking and wants to be independent. he has a mind of his own and his ideas do not include his helmet. But he will thank me later!

Good luck to you and your son.

Hi Alisha and welcome! Sounds like you have really gotten the ball rolling!

Good for you. You are starting helmet therapy at a great age and you should

see results pretty quickly. Hopefully we have a member in the group from your

neck of the woods that can tell you a little more about what to expect from

your specific helmet. It's great that he does not have tort or facial

assymetry - the flatness if the easiest part to correct so you should be in

good shape!

Once again, welcome and we look forward to hearing more from you in the days

and weeks ahead. Keep us posted!

Hi Alisha and welcome to this group. I have found the advice from the people here ever so helpful!

My daughter Livia was also not evaluated for her Plagio(severe) until she was about 6 months old.

She wore two DOC bands and graduated in Dec/01(at 14 months old) and recieved aprox. 75-80%

correction in the flatness, and 100% in her facial assymitry. Feel free to ask any questions at all,

and you will get some good answers and suggestions! These guys are great!(myself included I hope LOL)

WELCOME!

We're new!

Hi! I'm Alisha, and my son was just evaluated for Plagio today (after I asked his Ped about it since his 2 month visit!) is now 6 months old, and he fortunately has only mild-moderate Plagio, no facial asymmetry, no tort. He is being fitted for a helmet on February 8th, so we have a few more weeks of smooching the top of his sweet head before the helmet goes on. 's pregnancy and delivery were pretty unremarkable, although I had an unplanned c-section because he was presenting "sunny-side up" and his head could not be turned. As far as I know, that had no impact on the plagio, which did not start to develop until around 2 months of age, but what do I know? I only asked his ped about his head 3 times before she agreed an evaluation was necessary! is seeing a pediatric neurosurgeon named Duncan in Providence, RI (actually, he sees his Nurse Practitioner, June, who is a plagio expert.) Well, my little munchkin is getting fussy, so I need to end now. Looking forward to learning from all of you!For more plagio info

Hi Alisha and welcome to the group! You have definitely come to the right place to ask your questions and vent your frustrations! Unfortunately, your ped is not the only one to say 'it will round out on its own'. You are fortunate enough that is still at a great age to be starting helmet therapy. By the way, I love your son's name; but I may be a bit biased since its my son's name too! Will you be traveling to Connecticut for a DOCband, or will you be getting a STARband or locally made helmet?

We're glad to have you with us, and hope that you keep us up to date!
