Guest guest
Niki- Thanks so much for telling me about your experience. I am hopeful that the sutures will still be open, her ped did lots of checks on her before recommending the helmet and said he was able to tell that they were still open. I just get nervous with the word surgeon in the title. I'll tell you a month ago I thought this is going to be the longest 3-4 months of life with her in the helmet and I can't believe a month has already flown by. I remember people telling me when we started this that time will go fast and boy it has. Thanks so much for answering my question and I will update you on the appt after we go. At least I know more what to expect! Hope the twins are doing well. Thanks and Grace
Guest guest
Hi all. On Thursday we have to go and see the neursurgeon since As some people know our ped. sort of went the backward route and Grace got her helmet and has been wearing it and he really wanted her to see a neurosurgeon as well, for another person to track her progress. I am soooooooo nervous. I am not sure why? I guess I am nervous that he will say something more is wrong then the plagio. Which I have no reason to think that anything else is wrong. Her head is starting to round out nicely after almost a month of wear and she is getting her head up from the tort and the asymmetry seems to be improving. When I hold her up to a mirror now it is not as obvious as it once was and her whole cheek to chin area on both sides is starting to look even. I guess the title of " neurosurgeon " sounds so scary and daunting. For those who have had to consult with them before getting the helmets, or just consult with them at all can you give me an idea of what the appt will consist of so that I am not so nervous? You guys have been so incredible and I have not dreaded any appts because with all of your knowledge on this I have always been prepared and I want to be again!! Thanks so much and Grace
Guest guest
Hi ! You and Grace will be just fine at your appt. on Thursday! It is very daunting to have to take your child to see a neurosurgeon, and if you're anything like me all you can imagine are worse case scenarios. But in all honestly, it went much smoother than I thought it would. Our neuro checked a variety of things. He checked to see how the babies were doing with trying to put weight on their feet, if they reached for things or were able to focus on one item. And of course he measured the head circumference of each twin with the tape measure, and then he would feel their heads for the bulges and flatness. We were very fortunate that he was also able to feel that their sutures were open so we never needed to get x-rays or cat scans. I would say our longest appt. lasted 20 minutes, and that was with him checking 2 babies. I am thrilled to hear that you are seeing improvement with Grace's head shape and facial assym. You'll be done this whole thing before you know it! Good luck on Thursday and let us know how it goes! Niki Kaylie & Danny (STAR grads) Phila., PA gracesmom101 <hags1@...> wrote: Hi all. Guest guest
, We met with a neurosurgeon who mainly asked questions, took a look at and told us what our options were. I would imagine that your appointment will not be too comprehensive since you have already begun and have seen improvement. I'm glad to hear that Grace is improving. That is wonderful news! You guys will be finished before you know it! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
: Going to the neurosurgeon was very scary for us too. But it really was very simple - our neuro just evaluated Abby, asked us some questions about her progress, and took pictures of her head. We talked about cranio & Abby's xray results also. It will go just fine. You most likely don't have anything else besides the plagio to worry about becuz Grace's head has already improved! Yippee. Let us know how the appt goes - good luck. Guest guest
Yes AnnMarie you kept saying time would fly by and it has for sure. It seems so weird to be in a spot now where I can say that to others!! That is so great that will be graduating soon, I can't wait to see that post! And tomorrow will offically be 1 month that Grace has been in her helmet and if the next couple of months are like this she will out of it in no time!! Thanks again for all of your great advice and support. and Grace
Guest guest
and Grace, I'm soooo glad to hear all is going soooo well with the helmet therapy!!!! I think I was one of the mom's telling you that time flies by -- and it certainly does. We are still waiting for s graduation day to come -- I think it will be pretty soon, he's looking good and he has been in his StarBand since 08/22/01. That will be 6 mos. in February and honestly, it does not seem like it has been that long. We can't wait until we get the word to disband!!! Lots of luck to you both!!!!
