The WLS dietician says we're supposed to get 60-80. I wonder what is recommended for a normal diet. Are you still feeling energetic? The following protein shake was recommended to me for high protein, low carb and reasonable cost: Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Protein Stack if you need lactose free try: Champion Nutrition Pro-Score 100 This place has great prices and reasonable shipping: www.allstarhealth.com At this website you can buy sample packs if you want to try some before you buy a large quantity: www.vitalady.com I've also heard that this is a reputable website: www.bariatricadvantage.com dunno how their shakes taste though. I've read that you shouldn't have more than about 30 g of protein at a time. I bought a bunch of powder but I can't seem to bother to mix it up every morning. Maybe that's why my hair is falling out! Ack! Every morning I have 12 ounces of high protein, lactose free milk which has 21 g of protein. I need to count up how many grams I get for the rest of the day. I have turkey and swiss for lunch and chicken something or other for dinner. Ann

Are you still feeling > energetic? I feel fantastic! I'm still getting all my fruits and veggies in, so maybe that's why...? I have found vastly varying totals (online) for how much protein should be in one's diet. I take it as a great sign that I'm no longer hungry AND still have loads of energy. Also, I'm probably eating more calories than you are. Aren't you around 1800 or so? I'm at 2300 on days when I do cadio+weights and days when I do 45+mins of cardio. And you know, she's gotta be right about the calories and protein, because all of a sudden, I'm seeing the scale move again! -Bonnie
Guest guest
I also had a problem of not getting enough protein. My hair began falling out. Not a normal strand here and there. I was so concerned that I actually talked to my doctor about it. It was my restrictive food plan. Once I added enough protein and actually had to put back in some carbs too my hair quit falling out. Thank God I have thick hair and it's back to normal now. Protein is super important. I was so confused back then about the hunger because it had been so long since I'd actually allowed myself to get physically hungry. I thought I was supposed to be that hungry! Now, I have a better idea of what normal hunger is and how my body really does let me know when I'm off track. brgk44 <brgk44@...> wrote: I don't think I've posted about this, mostly because I didn't see anypoint to it, but for the past 3-4 weeks I've been SO hungry! I wentback through my food/exercise journal and realized that it startedwhen I began getting more serious about weight training (I basicallydoubled my sets, increased the weight, and added in more exercises). Anyway, I could eat a serving of old-fashioned oatmeal for breakfastwith a half cup of blueberries and 30 minutes later be hungry (thatused to keep me full for 2-3 hours). Eat an apple and a string cheeseand 45 minutes later be hungry again. It went on and on, no matterwhat I did. But I dealt with it, drank a lot of tea, figured thatsooner or later my body would take the hint that I'm NOT going to overeat.Few days ago I was talking to a friend and she asked if I was gettingenough protein. "Sure, I eat healthy, why wouldn't I?" But then Istarted thinking she was on to something and decided to speak with thedietician at the Y. We get one free (one hour) session with herincluded in our membership and I haven't used mine yet. So Friday Icalled her, mainly to set up my appointment, but she asked what it wasconcerning and I told her what was going on and she said that I'm notgetting anywhere near enough protein and too many carbs. Good carbs, mind you, but too many nonetheless. On top of that, on days when I do intense stepping, I'm only getting1200-1400 calories once you subtract what I've burned. So she thinksthat upping my calories a bit and increasing my protein to 140grams/day will not only make me feel better, it'll help me to breakthrough this plateau. She recommended a couple different kinds oflow-sugar/high protein bars and shakes and said to add in at least onea day and keep track of my protein intake so that I hit a bare minimumof 120 grams and a maximum of 150 grams.Started that Saturday and would you believe that I breezed throughSunday AND today? I'm not hungry anymore! YAY! It means I have tospend my calories very wisely in order to get in that much protein, but it's worth it if I'm not hungry anymore :)She wants me to make an appointment with her the next time I'm havingproblems (or if this doesn't work). She said otherwise my diet lookedgreat (if only she'd seen it a year ago).Anyway, thought I'd post it so it'll maybe help someone who might have the same problem. -Bonnie Talk is cheap. Interesting concept(s), but now that you mention it, a few months ago I was experiencing the same thing: hair loss, fatigue, etc.... now that I think about it further, I have changed my "diet" a little - maybe more protein, I don't know about carbs - but my levels are within limits of spark now (see my earlier post in response to s MOTD) - but, I have noticed that the hair issue is no longer freaking me out. Fatigue, yes, but that is stress, etc due to life, work, etc I am sure.... but thanks for the info, this is definately something to watch and consider... I am also seeing my dietician/nutritionist here at the end of the month.
