Guest guest
, Sounds like you have really gotten the ball rolling - good for you! What kind of helmet/band are you getting? As far as the casting goes - I would bring another person along if possible. One person can hold Jack while the other provides the entertainment. Bring some items for distraction. Binkie, bottle, favorite toy or blankie, maybe a new toy that makes noise or music. The truth is that Jack will probably cry, but it will be very quick and the crying will be short lived. He won't be in pain - he will just be angry, scared or confused. Mommy will be able to put a quick end to that once the casting is over! :-) It will go great and it will be over before you know it! Let us know how it goes and where you will be going for the casting. It's possible that someone here has been there and can give you some specifics. Welcome and I'm glad you have joined us. Guest guest
Hi ! I'm new as well. We had our casting a little over 1 week ago. I recommend bringing a pacifier and/or a bottle. My little guy thought it was pretty funny at first until he realized the sock was not coming off any time soon. When he got fussy I gave him his bottle and he was actually okay!! (to my surprise) It really was not all that bad...the tech was great! Make sure to bring someone with you as well like your husband, a friend, or one of the grandparents. This also helps. I had wished that I brought a camera...when I mentioned this to the tech, she called in someone to take a picture for me. I got pictures of the casting, after the casting, and the bath. (of course for the baby book!) Good Luck to you and keep in touch! We get our DOC band next Monday the 28th. I was told that is an all day thing because once they fit it he has to wear it for a couple hours and then we go back to have it rechecked again. It's possible to do that a few times in one day...hopefully not for us. You can E-mail me directly at casskc@... if you want a plagio buddy since we're both new at this if you'd like. Once again, Good Luck (mom to ) Florida

Guest guest
I am new here too so I understand what you are going thru. My daughter's casting is on the 29th - for a DOCBand. Is Jack getting a DocBand or another type of band or helmet? Sorry I can't be of any help. Just wanted to say good luck! > Hi everybody! > My name is and my son is Jack (7 months old). Guest guest
Hi : Welcome to our group! SO happy you found us. We'd love to hear more of Jack's story. I see Kendra gave you a very good link to check out for good information on the dreaded casting. Be sure you check it out. Do you know what type of band Jack will be getting? A DOCband made by Cranial technologies, a STARband made by Orthomerica or a locally made helmet? Be sure you bring along a bottle for Jack for the casting, his pacifier if he takes one or a favorite toy. It's best to have someone else go along with you to help hold Jack down, most babies fight a lot during the process. The casting takes just 10 mins., if he's getting a DOCband, he'll get a nice bath after that usually calms the baby right down. My daughter was casted 3 times in all and was back to her happy self w/i 10 mins after the castings. Good luck with everything. We look forward to getting to know you & Jack better Debbie Abby's mom DOCgrad MI > Hi everybody! > My name is and my son is Jack (7 months old). Guest guest
, Good for you for going with your instinct and pursuing a diagnosis and treatment. The DOCband should work really well for Jack and I'll bet you will see improvement in no time. Sounds like you are prepared and ready to do what you need to do. I'm not surprised about the denial - soooo many of us here have had that same situation. I will say, however, that appealing the denial and winning CAN be done! I have quite a bit of experience in that area since we went through the entire appeals process, filed a complaint with the State Department of Health, received an external review and WON!! You can do it too! Good luck with the casting and let us know how it goes. Marci (mom to megan) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Hi again - Thank you everybody for the great advice. I am definitely recruiting my husband to come with us. Jack ADORES him... We are getting fitted for the DOCband. The surgeon that we went to only works wth DOCband becuase he has had the best luck with it. I found a wonderful cranialfacial surgeon at Yale. (I live in Connecticut) He was great, far better than my pedi who told me not to worry, that the head would shape back on it's on. Thank god I didn't listen to him. I just found out that insurance has denied the band so I'm sure I will be posting about that too. This group is fantastic and I'm sure that you will all hear a lot from me. I know it is the right thing to do for Jack, I just feel fortunate that I didn't listen to our pediatrician! Thanks again for everybody's insight.
