Insurance denials are no fun at all...we went through 3 with our provider. The bad news is we had to go through 3 denials and fight tooth and nail to get Leigha's DOC band approved...the good news is we finally won on a third level appeal. Its a trying and stressful process to go through and I think there are a lot of people here who would like to blow up HMO's(I know what Rehab designs and Dr. Bob think of the moron who fought us for covering the DOC band.*wink*) Keep fighting...it might be a long process but it will definatly be worth it when you win - just remember its nothing personal on you...just the HMO trying to keep their money...the worst thing in our case was that our insurance didn't have to even pay full price on the band..they only were required to cover 45% of the band but they still had to be stupid about it. I know that it's nothing personal, but it's just so frustrating and it just seems like they should care more, especially when they are dealing with children. PS where near Kansas city are you? I am in La Cygne, about an hour south. But I work in Kansas City Kansas, so I'm in " the city " almost every day. It's nice to meet another person from my area. I noticed that you went with the DOC band. I didn't even know that they offered those in the KC area. That's one reason we used the STARBand. Not that we're unhappy with our choice. I was just happy to see another person from the KC area who had gone a different way. I looked on your web site and Mikey was also seen at Children's Mercy, but not for cranio. That must have been so hard for you guys to go through. Thanks again, Debi and (STARBand 11/29/01) near Kansas City

Same here. was seen by a great neonatologist from Children's Mercy (Dr. Fred Hall) when he was in the NICU and then he had surgery at 8 weeks for a double hernia and the staff was fantastic when we had to stay overnight. The people who work there should qualify for sainthood. :-) Thanks for the support on the insurance issue as well. I wonder if it would do any good to call the prosthetic company and see if they can be of any help. They submitted the first claim that was pre-authorized, so maybe they have the paperwork that can help get it through this time. This really bites since the insurance company sent me a letter and told the helmet company that it would be authorized and then they turn around and deny it. I don't know what I'd do without the wisdom and support of this group. Debi and (STARBand 11/29/01) near Kansas City
