Guest guest
Okay, I have to tell you guys this because I know you'll understand how I feel. I don't post here anymore, although I do read the messages because my daughter is a graduate of the DOC band, I've wanted to keep up with everybody, and we're expecting again (I'm hoping this time to avoid plagio, but we'll see). ANYWAY, our baby is due the first part of March, so I read the posts on Babycenter's Feb. 2002 and Mar. 2002 boards. Yesterday I saw a post where someone asked about back vs. tummy sleeping. As I was reading through them, one of them mentioned babies getting flat heads from sleeping on their backs. Well, you're not going to believe this, but several messages down people started saying that babies got flat heads because they were NEGLECTED. Can you BELIEVE that? My blood pressure went up immediately. Of course, after I calmed down I posted a new topic about that, what we went through with my daughter, some things to watch for re: plagoi, included Cranial Tech's web address, and included my e-mail if anyone wanted more info - and I've gotten a couple of direct e-mails about it. Anyway, just kind of wanted to vent about some of the ignorance out there. Their assumption of neglect is as stupid as me assuming someone beats their child because he/she has a bruise on his/her leg. DUH. I stayed mad for hours!!!!! Guest guest
"Neglect" vent Hi Becky, I went to babycenter.com and read your posting. Nice job explaining things. I was so offended by the suggestion that my baby has plagiocephaly because I am neglectful parent that I posted there too. It's not a board I should even be at, I'm not expecting! But I couldn't resist speaking my mind. lol It made me feel better anyway. Guest guest
Becky, HOLY SMOKES!!! That would have really, really ticked me off royally if I had read it. I'm so glad that you responded after you had calmed down and provided factual information about plagio. Hopefully you helped some people there and broke up the suggestion that it is caused by neglect. Ooooh - that really makes my blood boil. Thanks for setting the record straight - good for you. Guest guest
I am new to this forum, my son just recieved his D OC Band 2 weeks ago here in Atlanta. I tend to be more of a reader than a participant on this forum....however, I think maybe all of us should log onto the Baby Center Forum and express what it is that we are going through. I am a Member of the Medical Profession AND stayed at home for 4 months before going back to work. I noticed my baby's flat head already at 2 months and worked diligently to keep him off of his back at all times EXCEPT when he was sleeping. Instead of getting better, the flatness became worse. There is no medical reason known yet as to why some babies are more prone to this than others...disregarding the preemies, multiples, etc. And until we know why some babies get it and others don't....everyone's child is at risk if they sleep on their back. To say words like neglect is so horribly judgemental. Although, I hope that this individual doesn't find herself in the same situation, perhaps it would teach her that the best mothers with all of the best intentions can not completly prevent this. This is as bad as the woman who wrote that she had a right to be angry at all mother's who didn't breastfeed....that if her child became sick because a mother who couldn't breastfeed's child became ill as a resultand exposed her child to an illness she had a right to be angry! ( She needs to live in a bubble if she thinks she can keep her child from ever getting sick)! Does this woman not realize that there are so many women, breast cancer survivors who are status post mastectomies, women who are on medications that could harm their children, who would LOVE to breastfeed but for some reason can't!!!! Gosh, here we all are in a support group....trying to learn and educate others all about this, during a time when many of us are learning how to be just first time mother's. We are doing this because we LOVE our children and want to help not only them, but each other....and then we hear this type of cruel remark. What ignorance! Oh, to be one of these perfect individuals who spends their life always looking to cast stones at others.... Guest guest
Hello! Sorry I have not posted a while but I felt that I had experience in someone saying it is neglect. Last semester, a professor of mine (a social work professor)was talking about this lady who neglected her child. The child had a flat spot on the back of her ahead because she did not do anything but lay on hard surfaces. My professor went on to stay this was definately neglect because of the flat spot and the child would not have had it if she was not neglected. I left that class very hurt and I wanted so bad to say something to this professor, but I never did. Of course that was before I had any idea that there were other babies with flat heads. At first when I took my son to the various doctors, I had this tremendous guilt like I was doing something wrong, because of his flat heads. Doctors would point it out like it was this horrible thing, and it scared me to death. I am from a small area, where there is only a handful of plagio cases and probably none as severe as my sons. I am soooooo thankful I found this group and I can face the professionals with with knowledgable information. s Mom to 9-months DOC BAnd since 1-10-02 "Neglect" vent Okay, I have to tell you guys this because I know you'll understand howI feel.I don't post here anymore, although I do read the messages because mydaughter is a graduate of the DOC band, I've wanted to keep up witheverybody, and we're expecting again (I'm hoping this time to avoidplagio, but we'll see).ANYWAY, our baby is due the first part of March, so I read the posts onBabycenter's Feb. 2002 and Mar. 2002 boards.
