Hi ,

Great news that you are currently do exercises for the tort, this could very well be aggravating or causing the plagio to worsen if constant pressure is on one side, so the helmet will surely give you relief there. The fact that the tilt and ROM is slight is also very good news, with pt and daily stretches, Kai should be resolved very soon! Keep up the great work! You will feel such a sense of relief- I know, been there, done that- when the helmet will alleviate your fears of the flat spot worsening, so that you can concentrate more fully on resolving the tort. Good luck to you all- please keep us posted on Kai's progress. Also, now that he has been dx with tort, check into the www.torticolliskids.org and torticolliskids for more support and tips on how to treat tort effectively- they are such a super parent source of info and suggestions!

Hi ,

Good to hear about all the progress you have been making in getting a

diagnosis and moving ahead with treatment. I'm thrilled that you have come to

a decision and are at peace with it. It seems that God really has been

answering your prayers and looking out for you and your baby - He really can

work in amazing ways when we let Him!!

It seems that you have a really good specialist and hopefully you will be

equally pleased with your orthotist. I would suggest going to

www.plagiocephaly.org/support and checking out the section about the casting

process as that will be your next big hurdle.

Best wishes to you and please keep us posted on your progress.

It sounds as though your doctor is using the name DOCBand as a generic name for cranial molding orthosis. It sounds like it will be a STARband, as they also do the casting locally, then send the mold to head office for the band to be made.

If this particular office has only done 3 bands for plagio, you may still be alright. Just make sure you ask lots of questions, be confident, and make sure you understand everything before you leave. Don't be afraid to ask for clarification if the ortho is moving along too fast, or you didn't quite get what s/he was saying. Ask for before/after photos of previous patients, and even ask for phone #'s of previous patients. You may not get the #'s (confidentiality!), but ask if s/he could phone these patients (parents ;o) and ask them to call YOU. Ask them if they were satisfied with treatment, service, etc.

Good luck, and please let us know how it goes.

Re: New and anxious-neurosurgeon appt today went well!

-HI everyone, I finally got back on here to see any responses to my post. I was a little surprised to hear that it would most likely be a STARband just because the Dr. and nurse stated it had to be a DOCband, I'm kind of confused because they were saying something about the Fda and that this particular orthotist has gotten permission from the Fda to make something that similar, that he casts for it and sends it to a main office or something that has to legally be called a DOCband, they were sketchy because they said this orthotist could explain it more. We're going to see him next Tuesday, but that's our appt. for casting. I guess I'll be calling on Mon. to get a clarification. Is there a chance that itis one of the locally made helmets I've heard reference to occasionally or something. Guess all the lingo is still a bit confusing for me. The girls in the office said they had done 3 of the positional helmets, they usually do the post surgical helmets,is this a red flag? Thanks for always responding to my posts, it makes me feel that we're not alone out here!! Kaneko(mom of 6mo. old Kai) in Columbia, MO.
