Guest guest
I threw out all my cotton and rayon clothes and bought polyester and nylon clothes. And like someone else posted earlier (was it rat goddess?), I only have enough clothes for one week. It sucks, I had a great wardrobe that cost a lot of money. Even with my polyester clothes, I still soak them in the washing machine with detergent, bleach, borax and white vinegar, for a minimum of one hour in hot water. Your clothes may be hopelessly infested with eggs. The eggs seem to get into those hard to reach double seams, etc. Regarding the plastic bags you store your clothes in, do you spray the inside of the bags with rubbing alcohol or something? Maybe the bags are somehow infested. If all else fails, dump the clothes and start over. Hopefully someone else has better advice for you. Best wishes, myrtle > > I soak them overnight with borax, ammonia and vinegar. Guest guest
Boiling my jeans, simmering for an hour, has been a complete kill. Everything else I soak overnight. Might it be that the crawling is from mites already on your skin and the pressure of clothes just sensitizes you to it? ES > > I soak them overnight with borax, ammonia and vinegar. Guest guest
Great point . When your hanging in the buff, do you feel anything hitting you or crawling on you. I'm constantly doing the environment or is it me thing. My friend, who's house I was at when my buggies found me, hung out in the nude all summer. I swear his buggies were much worse than mine, he had all sorts of red mountains on him, cause I covered up. b > > > > I soak them overnight with borax, ammonia and vinegar. Guest guest
Why don't you shake it up a little and try a different washing routine. I seem to have pretty good success with Dr Bronner's peppermint liquid soap, borax, arm and hammer washing soda, and a few drops of an iodine solution(it may discolor your clothes a bit)in hot water. I then buy Bounce free and pour tea tree, cedar and eucalytpus essntial oils to the bounce. I then add 2 to each dryer load. I purell wheneever I touch my laundry. I aso nuke my clothes. I " think " my clothes are Ok. b > > I soak them overnight with borax, ammonia and vinegar. Guest guest
I've been curious about the same thing. How do you know it's the clothes that are making you itch, or just the mites that are still on your body? How can a mite live through normal washing and drying? > > > > I soak them overnight with borax, ammonia and vinegar. Guest guest
Yeah, I get hit even when in the buff. Not as much when clothed, but it still happens. These f'rs live through my showers. Maybe sitting in a tub is better, but then I've heard the bastards just run for cover on your head. Can't win for losing. > > > > > > I soak them overnight with borax, ammonia and vinegar. Guest guest
Make sure when you bake the clothes that you feel the inside layers to make sure that the heat has penetrated all the way through the clothing. Sometimes it takes more than 20 min. They may also be getting back on you from the environment, or your own skin. What are you doing to get them out of your skin? DE is the best way to get them out of your carpet. Good Luck > > I soak them overnight with borax, ammonia and vinegar. Guest guest
Regarding whether the bugs are coming from your clothes or skin, if you have just bathed and have no crawling on your skin, and then put on an article of clothing and immediately feel crawling, it is most probably in the clothing. At the height of my infestation, it was hard to tell the difference, because I was doing so many things wrong. I was re-using infested towels, not cleaning the bugs off in the laundry, etc. (sorry, my mind goes blank a lot). Before I dumped all my cotton and rayon clothing, I would find that every morning I would start to have mites crawling on me like crazy at 10:00 a.m. I thought it was a special hatching hour for them until I finally realized that the eggs were in my clothes, and they were hatching about 2.5 hours after I put on my work clothes. After I switched to synthetics, I didn't have that problem anymore, so that's how I verified that the bugs were coming from my clothing. The bugs coming out of my skin would feel like " worms " crawling in my skin, not big skampering mites. The bugs coming from my clothes and my office chair felt like big mites. The eggs seem to get stuck in the cotton and rayon, and do not get destroyed in the wash. You have to cook them to kill them. Perhaps if I had cooked my clothes, I could have destroyed the eggs, but I didn't have the time or energy to cook my clothes, and I don't have a microwave. To save my sanity, I dumped everything. I understand that mites can float on water, which is why you have to be careful about bathing when you're infested, because they'll float on the surface of the water and then get on you as you emerge from the water. I always shower and clean myself up before I bathe. If you're really infested, perhaps a shower-bath-shower might get them off you. Be sure to clean up the bathtub after you use it. Spray rubbing alcohol or a bleach solution to kill whatever is in the tub. Otherwise you'll get bit up the next time you go in there. myrtle > > > > > > I soak them overnight with borax, ammonia and vinegar. Guest guest
Try bathing first and soaking your head. Put stuff like tea tree, epsom salts and aplle cidar vinager in your bath. Lice comb your hair with conditioner and shower after your bath. This make it harder for them. J.
