Guest guest
My 4 month old son was just evaluated for plagiocephaly by a Craniofacial Surgeon and will be fitted for his DOC Band this Thursday. My insurance, Principal, has not covered it in the Atlanta area according to Cranial Technology here. Of interest, is that 1. where I delivered...2. the hospital that I am employed by, and 3. the hospital that provides my medical insurance (I am a Physician Assistant that works for the hospital itself), has the largest women's center in the country and delivers more babies than any other private hospital in the country. They are very pro-active in the back- to-sleep campaign and yet the insurance company that provides insurance to this hospital's own employees contracts out with an Insurance company that has never paid for this here in Atlanta. Unbelievable!!!!! Has anyone else had any dealing's with Principal. I haven to. been denied as of yet, but according to Cranial Technologies, which will be fitting him for his DOC Band this week, they have never paid for this procedure here at the Atlanta office, though I understand they have paid elsewhere in the country. I have every intention on fighting this, and will be doing whatever it takes so, any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Townsend, PA-C
Guest guest
Hi and welcome to the group! I just wanted to wish you and your son luck on his fitting for the helmet this Thursday. I'm sure you will be thrilled with the results you get with the DOCband, it is a wonderful product! I'm sorry that I don't have input regarding Principal Insurance. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that you don't get denied. Good luck and let us know how it goes! Guest guest
, Welcome to the group. I don't have Principal insurance, but I think you will find that there are MANY insurance companies that do not cover helmet/band therapy. My healthcare company was WellCor and they denied coverage based on not medically necessary. I had two letters of medical necessity from my neurosurgeon and one from my ped and I was denied at every appeal level. It was not until I had an External Review done that my insurance company was forced to pay. The biggest part of how you choose to fight depends upon the reason for denial. Most are denied for either " not medically necessary " or " treatment is experimental and not proven " . There are some other reasons as well, but those seem to be the most common. You should check out our files section for " insurance help " . There you will find some good article links and some sample appeals letters that overturned the decision. Good luck. It's great that you are getting such an early start. You should see great correction in minimal time. I look forward to hearing more of your story and maybe even seeing some pictures of you little one. We have a photos section on our homepage. Guest guest
Hi ! Welcome to our group! I don't have Principal Insurance so I can't offer much good advice to you other than keep fighting like you're planning. Hopefully someone else in the group has the same insurance and can offer good advice. Your son is at the perfect age to being his DOCband therapy. You should see great & fast results. Good luck with the fitting, has he already been casted then? How'd that go? Keep us updated on his progress & your ins. battle.
