I know Myrtle used it on hers all over first time but now only head and back I think. It might make them sick if they lick off too much of it but don't think it will kill them. Joan

Best Yet - cedarcide on pets

I was reading on the Best Yet site that using cedarcide right on pets, including KITTENS was safe...is that because kittens don't groom the way adults do? I can't imagine that licking that stuff off would be healthy, but if anyone has had success with it, I'd try it on my poor kitty.Bessie

Don't do it. I hate to be repetitive, but I was afraid my cat was dying

after I thoroughly massaged her with Cedarcide, left it on for 5

minutes, and then shampooed her. She lay around and wouldn't eat or

drink for 2 days. Some people-tuna finally got her interest and she

slowly recovered. She did not lick herself. The damage took place

through the skin. Now, when she smells me applying it to myself, she

flees. Smart girl.

I'm sorry your kitty got so sick from the Cedarcide. Is it possible

that the shampoo interacted with the " Best Yet... " and created a

poison? I put a lot of the Best Yet on my two kitties the first time

I treated them, and it did seem to make the female cat not feel well,

I assume because she was licking it, but her reaction was not as

severe as your cat's. I have noticed a difference between the male

cats and my female (who happens to be named Myrtle). I usually give

the same treatments to my mother's cat, which is a male. The Best Yet

didn't make either of the male cats sick, although they didn't like it.

Now when I use it, I only spray it on the backs of their heads and

down their spines, then rub it into their skin and we haven't had any

problems with Myrtle getting sick. However, it only seems to provide

relief for a few days.

Bessie -- Have you tried rubbing olive oil on your kitty? I may try

that tonight on my cats, because they were both scratching when I got

home this evening.

Thank you, -

I just couldn't believe that it would be that safe - their site is

full of " safe " testimonials, but I just couldn't but it. If it were

as safe AND effective at " killing everything " we'd all be slathering

ourselves with it and be cured.

Maybe YOU could write in an " unsolicited testimonial " to them!

Myrtle - No, I haven't tried the Olive Oil - I guess I will. Do you

think that it will cut down on her ability to keep warm outside? You

know, if those little hairs stick together from the oil? She loves

being outside, and I know she picks things up out there. But she

WILL NOT use a litter box...stinker!

Bessie -- I'm not sure about keeping warm outside. She would probably

get real dirty if she had oil on her fur and went outdoors. My cats

are strictly indoors cats, with an enclosed patio to lounge on. I

used the olive oil on them for the first time last night, using two

oiled paper towels to rub it onto them. They weren't too happy with

me, especially little Myrtle. They looked like punk rockers with the

oily fur sticking up in spikes, and they kept licking themselves.

They stopped scratching though.

Senior Myrtle -

Miss Kitty was a stray about a year old when she " adopted " me. I

didn't let her in for quite awhile because I had birds, but then I

finally gave in. By that time she had decided she liked " going "

outdoors much more than a litter box and now refuses to use one, so I

have to let her out. What a little Prima Donna!
