Hi jill: Where do you buy your dustmite spray from? Thanks for letting us know about this spray. It sounds wonderful.

Mark and all,I cannot stress enough the considerable part Dustmite has played in reducing the problems I have experienced. While they do not solve the problem completely, for carpets and other fabrics, including foam such as in car seats, they have given me my life back. The key is the water solubility of this borate, which distinguishes it from others. The water solubility of course refers to the size of the particles suspended in the liquid, and in the case of Dustmite is small enough to be absorbable by the carpet fibers right along with the water in which it is dissolved (suspended).I have been using this for years at work and at home before I ever heard of dehumidifiers. The dehumidifiers seem make the Dustmite even more effective. Caveat: Because it works by shredding larvas of microorganisms, including fleas, roaches, and DUST MITES, it takes time to impact the

population, but impact it it does. On average it takes 8 weeks to kick in, but it lasts 8 months (I spray it every 6 months along with an IGR and something for a knockdown, for which I use the ECP)I will tell you how I know it helps: I got lazy at work because I have to smuggle in a spray bottle in my purse. I normally spray on the 4th of July and Christmas, because holidays usually give me a chance to be in the office alone at the end of a day before a weekend, to give the IGR scent some time to go away. I got complacent. I let it go a year. One day I got eaten up like I had before I discovered the Dustmite and I knew immediately what had happened, because it was deja vu. After a few days of misery, I ordered some more Dustmite (I can do my office and whole large house for a year with one bag for about $25 + s & h) but still had to wait out the 8 weeks. It was so bad I told my employer we

needed a PCO to come in. They moved me to a dinky little area away from my window and I had to get rid of 20 cu feet of crap I didn't need anyway. Oh well.BTW as for how much it takes: not much. Lightly mist the carpet, upholstery, car seat, curtains, dining room seats, bedding, whatever you don't wash and treat regularly that is made of fabric or fibers.Remember valances!Again, do not worry about vacuuming first. If you have a bad back and don't feel like vacuuming today, this week, this month, don't worry about it. Get this stuff down as soon as you can so the 8 week countdown can begin. That is much more important than vacuuming! That said, as we all know, if you CAN vacuum, do, focusing on areas where we spend time. It is better to obsessively clean the 3 yard circle we sit in most of the day than it is to clean top down the whole house, because they are all going to come to mama!!!

If I use myself as the bait that I am, I know where to go to kill them.Good luck, Mark, and thanks for sharing, katiejill> > From: kihunonline <kihunonline@ ...>> Subject: Where to buy menthol crystals - STICKY> bird mites> Date: Saturday, November 29, 2008, 8:06 PM> > > > > > > This question keeps coming up over and over so here it is again.> (I'm just copy and pasting snippets of past posts).> > Since we can't seem to "sticky" posts here, should we title these > types of posts with "sticky" in the subject?> > Anuyway, places to buy menthol crystals:> > Yes $15.39/lb here: http://www.newdirec tionsaromatics. com/menthol-> crystals-p-548. html> Click on the Canadian flag if you are ordering from Canada. > > I get mine from www.lotioncrafter. com. $20.00 per pound plus shipping.>

I like Dustmite, but here is a comparison w / similar stuff.

My Dustmite notes:

1. Spray don't steam. Spraying uses half as much product.

2. It takes far less than the instructions say. I just lay a light

mist over everything.

3. If you don't have time to vacuum first, just get the product down

so you can start the 8 week countdown (takes about that long to

impact population).

4. In answer to a couple of queries, I don't see any reason not to

spray hard surfaces with it. I sprayed my stucco dog room after your

question.

5. Repeat twice a year forever and never pay the price I did (below)

6. Source: nationalallergy.com. They also carry other brands that do

similar things (see list below)
