Guest guest
Hi, Dawn, I don't know about for the others, but dry cleaning is my last ditch (most expensive) option. Even so, I can't get them out of some fabrics. I recognize those fabrics in the stores now and avoid them. Don't know how to describe. I prefer slick fabrics or things I can fry in my dryer (or microwave or oven). However I do have some POLYESTER terry PJ bottoms that I love, and that if I soak for the minimum 24 hours and then fry in dryer (my preference, others like baking 'em) for 4 hours, are just fine. Pantyhose and socks I have a hard time recycling, so toss p'hose after one wearing (I get the blue box Leggs control tops, they are pretty cheap) and decide on socks after each wearing depending on how many black specks there are!!! And I get it. This is overwhelming. I finally got disgusted and started doing cartoons just to feel a bit more sane in an insane situation. You can find them at www dot webshots dot com slash user slash livingwithcritters Another thing: even while you are dealing with the mitemare, remember to keep on living your life as much as you can. They can only beat you if you let them, and now you have us, and we have you. I suspect we are the lucky ones :-) Hang in there, girl, KJ > > Well I have to say after reading and learning what has to be done to > eradicate these mites I have to say I am so very overwhelmed. Guest guest
What I forgot to say is that it is cheaper to dry clean than replace, so that is what I do/did in MOST cases. > > Hi, Dawn, > > I don't know about for the others, but dry cleaning is my last ditch... Guest guest
Dawn--you don't have to throw out your clothes. That's what I did out of desperation because I was going nuts, and because I couldn't get the bugs out of them. They were nesting in my cotton and rayon clothing, towels and bed linens. Your clothing and other items may or may not be infested the way mine were. You might consider packing your clothes, towels and sheets in containers or sealed bags though, to keep the mites from nesting and breeding in them, if you think that is happening. You could slowly sanitize your clothing by cooking them, and then segregate the sanitized clothing from the unsanitized clothing. But like I said, your stuff may not be infested the way mine were. Best of luck to you. Take a deep breath and do what you can. myrtle > > Well I have to say after reading and learning what has to be done to > eradicate these mites I have to say I am so very overwhelmed. Guest guest
I can totally relate to the overwhelming feeling that you have. We all stumbled onto this website in that state. The best thing you can do is slow down, take a deep breath, and look at what is in front of you and ask yourself, what do i have? what can i do right now? Start small, and just keep going. One issue at a time. One day at a time. You cant fix it in a day. It will eventually all work itself out. It only gets better from here. The first thing i would do is get some Diatomaceous Earth. You can use it on your carpets. It has made the biggest difference for my environment. You can do a search to see how people are using it on the home page. Good Luck. > > Well I have to say after reading and learning what has to be done to > eradicate these mites I have to say I am so very overwhelmed. Guest guest
Hi, The things that helped me were covering my mattress with plastic. I just used the plastic mattress cover from WalMart but others used painters drop cloth with duct tape. I took all clothes to laundrmat and used the hottest wash cycle and dryer on hottest setting for at least 1 hour. This seemed to work ok for me. I finally managed to get rid of them with the clorox, epsom salt and water spray and windex in my car. I can happily say they are gone. Vacuum a lot, and keep your clothes in plastic bags or totes. I had to spray my shoes a lot and thew many pairs out. lou From: myrtle_maui <myrtle_maui@...>bird mites Sent: Tuesday, December 9, 2008 1:41:43 PMSubject: Re: Overwhelming and SCARY!!! Guest guest
Lou, Congratulations on all your good news, especially getting rid of the critters!!! You give me hope!!! I have a technical question: what did you spray your dark colored shoes with? Has anyone figured out how NOT to rust the zippers in their boots (all I wear since mitemare began) BTW who coined the term mitemare? It is perfect! Guest guest
Lou, I bet the clove and oregano oils in the ESP serum (I think you were using??) really helped you. Clove oil helps me a lot, on my body and laundry. It is a strong oil and you need to be careful with it on your skin. bob > > > > Well I have to say after reading and learning what has to be done to > > eradicate these mites I have to say I am so very overwhelmed. Guest guest
Hi , Yes, I was actually mixing it with veg. oil and getting tons of stuff out of my skin. Guest guest
How much clove etc do you put in your wash? What else do you use in it. I'm looking for new things to try in laundry since regular washing don't get those suckers. Guest guest
Bobby and Lou, How much clove oil do you use and for what? For example, are you putting the veg oil/clove oil directly on skin? How much do you put in the tub? Have you ever mixed your own shower gel? Has anyone? PS I am almost out of the ESP products and things are definitely hoppin' right now in MY critterland! Just happens I've been into essential oils for a while and had a bunch, so mixed something that smells like Trish's New Hope line. I'm short a couple of ingredients, but as long as I keep it weak enough, if what I'm missing are the buffers, it shouldn't have any NEGative effects. Mixed it in EVOO, of course...Couldn't find my little bottle of neem oil, but it burns my skin anyway, always has. Thanks for any advice, KJ > > > > > > > > Well I have to say after reading and learning what has to be done > > to > > > > eradicate these mites I have to say I am so very overwhelmed. Guest guest
Hi, I mix about 20 drops in with about 1/2 cup veg. oil and slather this on my skin. Then soak in 1 large bottle of peroxide and bout 1 cup of borax. This gets a lot of stuff out of my skin, then shower and apply the esp soap and balm. Another thing I used when I had the mites so bad was mixing in lemongrass and tea tree oil in neem. I sure hope you get some relief.
