Re: The Dermatologist Route (Ok, I went today)

So I went to the dermatologist today and got the diagnosis I was

hoping to avoid: ALLERGIES

Apparently, I have heightened level of histamines b/c when the doc

took a pen and drew out a tic tac toe board on my forearm (not

actually drawing w/ ink), the skin turned red where he went over

it. He did it to himself and his skin did not turn red. I told him

that I have crawling, biting, and stinging sensations that started

when I bought a car and the owner is a dog owner and rescues dogs.

I suggested dog scabies, to which he quickly shot down saying that

dog scabies can't live on humans for more than a week. " You don't

have bugs and your car doesn't either " is what he said. He knows my

car doesn't have bugs b/c he's actually sat in it, right?

I showed him a big zit looking thing on my chest and he did scrape

it but it showed up as negative for scabies, which only strengthened

his diagnosis more. So I got prescribed two anti-histamines.

Tagamet and Z-something (not Zyrtec). I'm supposed to take them for

6 weeks.

" We have patients come in all the time thinking they have bugs but

it's not bugs " .

I didn't say anything back to him but thinking later, I

wondered " and how many of those patients did you actually cure? "

But wait, the doc did say the symptoms can last indefinitely... so

my assumption is that for those that don't have allergies, they

continue to suffer thinking they have allergies and nothing they

take is working. Poor souls.

Not once did I mention morgs or fibers. Since he already doesn't

believe I had bugs, it was pointless to talk further about my

condition and risk him thinking I was a nutcase.

I might be done with the doctor route. I was not lucky enough to

run into a doctor who may have had experience with these things and

I don't think I can patiently go through 10 doctors before finding

the one that may be able to help. I did want to rule out scabies

though (at least the human kind) and at least we ruled that out. My

sister suggested trying to find an infectious disease doctor and not

a dermatologist. Either way, I might be done. I will focus more on

praying.

Right or wrong, the diagnosis from doctors mess with your head and

erode your confidence. Has there ever been anyone on this forum

that thought they had bugs but really had allergies instead and were

cured by taking anti-histamines? Of course I doubt myself whether

the last 3 month fighting these bugs was all caused by allergies.

Oh don't I wish it was that easy! But then how do you explain me

getting biting/stinging sensations everytime I rode that car? How

do you explain the crawlies? How do you explain ppl around me

starting to scratch themselves madly and the more crawlies I have,

the more they scratch. How do you explain the relief I get when I'm

taking a shower/bath or when I had just done a knock down in the

house? How do you explain these strange lint fiber balls? (these

lint balls are the greatest mystery of all!)

Just incredible. So ALLERGIES is the new delusional parasitosis. It's

foolproof. They can stay within the little carefully protected

parameters of their comfort zone. They say that symptoms persist

indefinitely, so they have to look no further. And we're basically off

their radar. Brilliant.

I could go postal. I could, I could.

Kihun, we would all be so relieved if antihistimines or antipsychotic

meds would relieve this. Don't be undermined. What you are observing,

from the initial cause to the myriad of symptoms, does not add up to

allergies! It's possible that the antihistimines will lesson your

reaction to the bites. It won't stop or prevent them.

Darlita, where is your doctor? We will come by road, rail, or air.

Funny coincidence: Last night a friend related an incident in which

someone with a serious breakout over much of her body went to a local

emergency room. The ER doctor was from India. He diagnosed internal

parasites. She was puzzled, went to the student health center the next

day, was told it was a food allergy, given an antihistimine, and is

fine. Actually, I could find that Indian doctor, couldn't I. Sewanee

Tennessee. He is obviously experienced, even if he probably made a

mistake in this case.
