Guest guest
Dear Readers, Many of us wish we could completely eradicate the mites from the home environment with just natural products, but often that is not possible. I know this also from personnal experience, as do most of you. And so the quest for effective miticides in undertaken, sometimes with the help of a knowledgeable PCO, but sometimes not. As mentioned on the birdmites.org 'strategies' webpage, there are some chemicals that are more effective and should be used if possible. I know some still are using and recommending pyrethrin and permethrin based products, but most will have little success with these. One of the best for personal use is Hot Shot's Ultra, the version 2 has Esfenvalerate, which is a good miticide and is the main ingredient of "Onslaught", which is used by some PCOs. Verson 3 is with Lamda Cyhalothrin which is also effective. If a PCO is involved, you may want to recommend the Onslaught if they are not already familiar with this. It will be more effective in the long run if mixed with an IGR. Here are a couple of references: http://www.pestproducts.com/onslaught.htm http://www.cardinalproproducts.com/Misc/MGK/Onslaught_TB_Final.pdf http://www.onslaughtinsecticide.com/Onslaughtproductbrochure.pdf Good luck and keep us posted how these products work for you.
