Guest guest
The mites are very small and hard to see. Tim has a way to try to capture samples on his strategies page, it's in a blue box partway down the page http://birdmites.org/strategies.html Also, some people have gotten blacklights and they say they can see the mites at night, using the blacklight. I never saw whatever was crawling on my skin. myrtle > > Thank you all for your helpful insight on how to handle this situation. > I am just confused because I have never, ever seen a mite and don't > know how to confirm that I even have them in first place. Guest guest
I could see them but barely. I would be at work and felt like something was crawling up my leg. I'd put cream on it and sure enough there would be a little dot. lou From: myrtle_maui <myrtle_maui@...>bird mites Sent: Tuesday, December 9, 2008 6:02:25 PMSubject: Re: How do I REALLY know?? Guest guest
In over a year now of fighting these things, no one in my family has ever seen anything we could identify. We've tried looking a LOT with microscopes as much as 100 power - no luck. The pest control company was unable to identify anything but " bug parts " . Also, the Vet that saw and treated our dog took lots of skin scrapings and never could identify anything. The Vet DID confirm that something was bothering the dog, since she had bit and twisted up her fur so badly going after the mites. Anyway, we've never identified them but we have made substantial progress on getting rid of them. First got them off our bodies (took a couple of months of fighting), then the cars (a couple months more), then my office at work (it's been almost a year now and I've got them *almost* beat there), and still working on home but much better than it used to be. We've never thrown anything out, but we microwave all clothing before and after wearing. And lots of other stuff people are mentioning (taped mattress covers, clothes washing with borox and ammonia, showering with Listerine/Dawn/Coal Tar Shampoo), borox in the carpeting, fogging with Cedarcide, dehumidifiers, and lots more. Good luck with your doc. Mine would not believe me: refused (since he's known me for 15 years) to call me delusional, but would not diagnose either. " It's a mystery " . Our vet was better, since he has the dog's fur and scratching as evidence. > > Thank you all for your helpful insight on how to handle this situation. > I am just confused because I have never, ever seen a mite and don't > know how to confirm that I even have them in first place.
