Guest guest
: I can't remember ever hearing that before. Has 's head improved since she's been in her band? Cranial Tech. will leave bands on baby's for usually 4.5 mos before they either graduate or recommend a 2nd band. I don't know why the specialist said the band wouldn't be effective any more if her head circ. is not icreasing. Hopefully someone else knows more about this than I do. I'm confused too!!! Guest guest
Hi , We had a similar discussion on this board a couple of months ago. The key point to remember, as pointed out by your specialist, is that if you are seeing improvement then the band is working as designed. In treating plagiocephaly, there often needs to be volume filling in regions that are not encompassed by the circumference measurement. Circumference and other anthropometric measurements are great tools for understanding what is going on, but they still only represent a linear or 2-Dimensional representation of the head shape. I will post an article in the Files section published in Pediatric Neurosurgery titled " Cranial growth unrestricted during treatment of deformational plagiocephaly " that may answer some of your questions. It is a little dry, but in summary it showed that infants treated with the DOC Band® demonstrated significant improvement in their plagiocephaly, while more importantly these children demonstrated normal cranial growth when plotted against age and gender specific norms. If you would like to discuss any of this in greater detail, please feel free to contact me toll free at: 866-362-2263 x 232.
