Guest guest
Dana, I think you should call first and ask if they will give you a free evaluation/consultation. That's what I did, I did not pay out of pocket and never got the insurance company involved- or my Doc, they said come on in for a free consultation! Once I was at Cranial Tech, I checked into what my insurance would cover and how much trouble they may have had with Neighborhood Health, but luckily, they had always paid 100% and never gave Cranial Tech a problem with previous patients, so I knew that going in that we would be covered if we went with it. Being that they are (CT?) 6 hours away, perhaps you could email or mail some pics if you talk with them about it- and maybe they could give you their general opinion from that? (bath time shots with wet hair are best, from the top, sides, front). I went for the consult to give me piece of mind, and to ask for a professional opinion about plagio- this is what they do and this is what they treat so I wanted them to give me their take on what was happening with , and to see if my mind was playing tricks on me or if the Doc was right in that it would correct itself. The fact that they sent me home to reposition for a month told me that they are not in this for the $$. The Tech showed me specifically where the ears were out of alignment, where there was some bossing of the forehead, where the cheek was more protruded on one side, the smaller eye, all things that I thought I saw, but was not sure if I was making more out of it then necessary (of course family and friends, and Docs said, its nothing, your being too judgmental, nobody is perfect so I was confused too). He was 3 months old at the time, so repositioning could still have worked for us, but the fact that he had tort, and was in daycare, it just wasn't working. By 4 months, I took him in for another consult, I wanted their advice again. I showed her a pic of the day he was born, plagio was evident, and she showed me where he was squished- hindsight is 20/20- I saw it right away. Of course, by then, I was eating, sleeping drinking plagio and tort. I don't think calling and asking would hurt- it will probably make you feel less confused. The more you know, the better you can make the call on what to do. The fact that my Doc was not for it, and I went behind her back to find out more, and did it, and know she's admitted that it was the best thing, that tells me that Moms and Dads really do know best. Go with your heart- you will do the right thing- whatever it may be. Good luck to you and please feel free to correspond with me anytime, I have been in your shoes and I know its not easy to make this decision. Looking back, it was the best decision I have ever made in my son's life. Take care and please keep me posted! ' Mom
