Guest guest
, Your son sounds a lot like how my was at 2 months. He was dx with torticollis (a tight neck muscle) at 2 months old. I had noticed he favored the right side as well, and seemed that I was constantly turning his head and it would "spring back" slowly. My ped at his 2 month check up went to check both ears, and he was not having it when turning to the left. The Doc asked me if he favors the right, and she dx him with torticollis. Have you noticed if your son will not turn his head a certain way? We were sent asap to a neurologist for an MRI- this was to rule out things and conclude that it was a muscular problem (most tort is- the tight muscle problem). Definetly address this with your Doctor at the 2 month check up next week and ask specifically to check for signs of torticollis. The sooner you start stretching exercises, the better and faster the results. If this is the case, ask for a referral for a physical therapist to help you with the stretching process. Don't worry, torticollis is totally fixable with hard work and dedication, a job easily taken on when your child's well-being is at issue. This was a gradual process, that started out with us learning about tort, and then noticing that the constant favoring on the right side created a flat spot (at 3 months, told it would round out, at 4 months, same advice). It was virtually impossible to keep him off that side for us, even at that age. Thanks to this group, I was able to really question my Doc's decision not to band, and looked into it by his 4 month check up. We had our son in the band a week shy of 5 months, against the advice of his ped. Facial asymmetry had started, a smaller eye, a puffier cheek, misaligned ears, and after 3 months in the band, I am happy to say that is all behind us now. Now the Doc is whole-heartedly in agreement with our decision, saying that it was the right thing to do. The results are nothing short of impressive. I have learned so much from this group and the torticollis group- check them out for more advice at torticolliskids or www.torticolliskids.org for tons of info and direction. Good luck to you and if I can help you in anyway, please feel free to email me at rella1234@... anytime. As for tummy time, especially tort kids hate it, start with slow 2-3 supervised increments and build up, this is excellent neck exercise also.
