Guest guest
Sheila-so glad I can help. It was such a scary time for me and being a first time Mom- I thought for sure it was all my fault and to top it off my mother in law (ugh) was like yeah I thought it looked funny but I wasn't going to say anything-that's real nice isn't it? Anyhow-yeah it looks cute up there on the bear-we actually went to one of those create a bear places in the mall and made a get well bear that giggled and then framed his diploma and put the bear with the helmet on the shelf next to the diploma. I thought it was cute. Well good luck to you- am here to answer questions anytime:-) Beck
Guest guest
Sheila, Sorry to hear about your troubles. If you had gotten the nurses name you could've reported her to the state board of nursing! As a nurse & mom to a son with tort/plagio, I feel badly for the way you were treated! Hope your visit goes well with Dr Wood. Joanne & (8months) BC, Canada Major VENT but good news too Hi everyone,I just got off the phone with Amaya's pediatrician's office and I reallyneed to vent because I am so p*ssed right now!!!Let me start at the beginning....I was up til 4am this morning doingresearch - trying to find out where to go locally for a consultation fora helmet, since we don't have a Cranial Tech. office in MN. I was veryhappy to discover that Gillette Children's Clinic here in St. hasFDA approval for the "CranioCap", which is a band rather than a helmet. This is the only FDA-approved craniofacial orthosis besides the STARBand and DOC Band in the country. I read all about it, and the dr.( Wood) who helped develop it, and decided this is who I want tosee. So today I called my insurance company and by some stroke of luck, this dr. and clinic ARE providers for our insurance. Woo hoo! They alsotold me the CranioCap would be covered 90%...Woo hoo again! They said Ijust have to get a referral from our primary care physician. So I calledthe physician's office, and the dr. isn't in today, so I spoke with thenurse. I explained the situation, and told her I do not want to waitanother month like the dr. told me to, and I was STUNNED when she said"There is no possible way we can refer you to Gillette's. We ONLY referto specialists within our own clinic system." So I explained thatGillette's is the only place that offers the CranioCap and she (this issupposed to be a PROFESSIONAL nurse) said real snippy "Well that's justtoo bad for you then. We will NOT make a referral. Besides, if the dr.told you to wait til her 6 month check-up then she must not beconcerned." And then I lost it. Yikes! I told her my daughter was NOTgoing to suffer just because they wanted to keep the dollars in theirown system. I also told her that the pediatrician's lack of concern isjust making the problem worse, and I REFUSE to stand by and watchnothing be done, therefore I will be finding a new pediatrician at a newclinic. And the nurse told me "Go ahead, we don't have the time orresources to deal with hypochondriacs (sp?) here anyway." OMG!!!!! I amstill in shock that she would say such a thing!!! For one thing, the dr.WAS concerned enough to have 25 stinkin x-rays taken of Amaya's head ather last visit, and for another thing, this is the ONLY issue I havebeen persistent about, because I am the one who has to look at my poorbaby's head and face every day, knowing that the clock is ticking. Howdoes that make me a hypochondriac?! I am so angry right now. I am goingto send off a letter to the clinic, my insurance company, the medicalboard, and anyone else I think of who can address the matter. I hopethis nurse gets fired...but she probably won't, since I never did gether name (stupid me I know...I was just so angry I couldn't thinkstraight). And I am NOT bringing Amaya there ever again.Anyway....(it is now 20 minutes after I wrote the first part of thisvent), I called Dr. Wood's office directly and told them what happenedand they allowed me to make an appointment with Dr. Wood himself fornext Monday, without getting a referral. I just hope my insurancecompany will still cover it. If he determines she needs the CranioCap Idon't see what it matters anyway whether I had a referral or not. So,wish us luck with this and in finding a new pediatrician!Oh...and for those who had read my first post when I was utterlyclueless....we were approved for the loan so we can continue ourinsurance. So that is a HUGE relief. It must have been due to all yourprayers! :-)Thanks so much for letting me vent if you read this far...I know youguys would understand my anger regarding this.--~Sheila (mommy to Amaya - 5 months old)For more plagio info
Guest guest
Hi Carolyn! I wish I could offer some guidance regarding losing weight, but I don't really have much to offer except my story, which I'll be happy to share with you. hypothyroidism/message/9967 I've been really fortunate because I lost weight easily once I started on thyroid hormones. I'm at my ideal weight now. I didn't mind being 150 pounds (compared to 300 pounds, well...150 is pretty darn good). But since I'm at such high risk for diabetes, I'm glad I've taken off another 20 pounds; that will decrease my risk of becoming diabetic. Take care, and keep in touch! Guest guest
Hi Sheila - Thanks for the well wishes ) got my fingers & toes crossed! Good, glad I didn't sound like it was the school's responsibility - read my earlier post and thought that I sounded that way! It's kind of one of my pet peeves - I'm not one that likes to place blame on others for what I feel is my responsibility, my health, my kids health, etc..... Can't wait to get into the Broda book when it arrives & try to learn how I can do better with RA & Hypothyroidism, guess I don't want to take feeling o.k. as an option - I so want to feel GREAT! As Tony the tiger would say! A lot of the folks on this list amaze me with the knowledge they have and their undying patience to help the newbies like me - god bless! (back to the fafsa forms.....) Re: Re: - nutrition in schools Hi , I think schools would be doing a great service to their students if they did have a salad bar with fresh fruits and veggies (and cottage cheese, etc). It's so healthy for them! I didn't think you were saying it was the school's responsibility for kids and their nutrition; however, if they are going to provide meals for them, they could offer healthier choices. I know when I was in school it was really hard because I was vegetarian for a number of years. If I wanted to eat at school instead of bringing my much, I mostly would've gone hungry. I didn't eat meat, dairy or eggs for a number of years. I also avoided many foods because of religious beliefs (followed the Jewish dietary laws). So even if I did eat meat, I couldn't eat pork if they served it. I don't know what schools are like nowadays. I don't know if they're any better about dealing with dietary restrictions (for health or religious reasons). But my school was awful! My sister was allergic to practically everything when she was a kid...she had no choice but to bring her lunch. I would hate to think what would happen if she forgot her lunch one day...the poor girl would've gone hungry! I'm sorry to hear about your sister-in-law. I will keep her and you & your family in my prayers. Your family sure has been through a rough time this past year. have fun filling out those student aid forms! Ugh!!! I've been trying to get my tax stuff together!! sounds like we're both into the fun stuff today! LOL! Well, ...I gotta get some exercising in this morning before work. Take care, lady! Hugs, sheila
