Hey again everybody, I replied to my prev. messages so everyone could

see where I'm coming from! We went to see Dr. Jimenez at the Univ. of

MO. today, the neurosurgeon linked to on the web, what a wonderful

Dr. ! Thanks lisbell100115 for your response to my email before,

after reading your response, my husband and I decided our son

probably does have mild tort and the Dr. confirmed that today. His

plagio is fairly significant though and the Dr. suggested that we

band right away and not try repositioning since he'll be 6 mo. old on

the tenth. He did not refer us to a Pt, just showed us the exercises

and told us to do them 6 times a day at least. We've already seen

improvement of the tort just as he's gotten older, as we think about

it. He turns his head the other way much more frequently and easier.

But he does still have a slight tilt and very sl. less range of

motion on the one side and of course still prefers the one way. The

orthotist who'll be banding Kai is with Hanger Prosthetics and dr.

Jimenez uses him to make his surgical helmets which are different,

but he also molds for the DOC band and sends it out. My husband and I

had actually decided that the band was what my son needed, and were

so glad for the Dr's recommendation and referral to support our

decision. I would have always wondered if we'd made the right

decision had I had to push for it. That's just me, I'm a wienie when

it comes to making decisions, Kudos to you guys out there who've had

to push for it on your own, I admire you! I personally prayed that

God would cause them to recommend the helmet if that was the right

thing and reassure us that it was the best thing for our son and they

did! (By the way I'm not a religious freak, but God has done some

amazing things for us in this situation, I just can't help but give

Him the glory!)The girls at the reception desk at the orthotics

office said they'd take care of calling the ins co. and stated that

it's always difficult to get an ins. co .to cover the cost of any

helmet esp. for positional plagio. But within an hour after we

returned home they called us back and said our ins. co. said they

would cover it up to 100% of allowable cost and that should mean 0$

for us! I couldn't believe it, everything is really working out so

perfect. I consider the news about the helmet today good news,

considering that we already know the bad news, that Kai's head is

misshapen. Finding a way to fix it and getting the ball rolling is a

move in the right shape:) Last week I didn't feel that way however,

and the thought of having to band our baby freaked me out. Thanks to

all of you for preparing me and getting me used to the idea and the

need for a band. Today was not a shock that way and we feel real

peace about our decision. YOU guys have been lifesavers! What a

journey in the space of one week Huh! I'm sure I'll be on here more

about the band etc. Haven't actually met the orthotics guy, that's

next Tuesday at 4 pm. Talk again soon hopefully. Anything else I need

to do or know at this point?
