Guest guest
Hello and welcome. You are probably right to trust your instincts that your baby's head might not just round out on its own. It has been the experience of almost everyone here that their baby's head did not simply " round out on its own " . It required repositioning, physical therapy, band therapy etc. or a combination of treatments. A second opinion might be in order, but I honestly cannot remember if we have any members from South Dakota or not. I checked the following site: www.plagiocephaly.org and chose locate a specialist. I couldn't find anyone listed for South Dakota or Colorado - there were two doctors listed in St. . You might also check orthomerica.com and choose contact us. They have a customer service number you might call to see if there are any orthos in your area. Then you could call the ortho and see what physician refers band patients to him/her. We have had a member or two that live in Colorado, but I'm not sure if they are still active or not. I think it would be a good idea to get a second opinion. Has your baby been diagnosed with tort? You mentioned the tilt so I thought maybe you have already received that diagnosis. If so you are probably already receiving PT, if not you should probably request that. If your baby has tort he will need some PT to correct it. Correcting the tort will assist in the correction of the plagio. Since has tilt and assymetry I doubt both of those issues will correct without an intervention. I think a second opinion is definitely in order. I wish I could recommned someone to you, but hopefully you can check out the two links above and find someone that you can go and see. Good luck and let us know what you find out. By the way 5 months is a great age to see good correction both with repositioing and with banding. Check out www.plagiocephaly.org/support for some information about repositioning. I know that this can be difficult with the tort! Keep us posted! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Hi , My son also had the "head tilt" which is caused from a condition called torticollis (wry neck or twisted neck)- which needs to be corrected with physical therapy and stretching exercises. If your Doc has not addressed this, you need to talk with him/her asap, and get an official dx so that you can start with pt asap! If your Doc makes light of it, seek another that has treated patients with torticollis. Don't take no for an answer- if your son has the head tilt and now has plagio, chances are, he has tort and the constant favoring of one side created a flat spot. I will attach a link that will show you some stretching exercises, but please get in with a professional pt, they can show you so many tips and give you a much needed stretching break! Please email me if you have any questions, or concerns. Just know that you must address the tort issue, as it is the reason for the flat spot. That tight muscle can play a large factor in balance, facial features, and on and on! Also, please check out www.torticolliskids.org or the chat group torticolliskids@... for more support and advice! Guest guest
You can try this link and do a search-hopefully there will be something there or another Mom can reply. If that doesn't work look for the closest doc clinic and give them a call and see if they have any suggestions. Good luck and let us know how your search goes!
