Guest guest
Hi everyone, I tried posting earlier but it doesn't look like it went through, so here goes again. Since we haven't been able to get a referral for a pediatric neurologist, we went to the cranial tech website to see who they have recommended for North Carolina. They have a plastic surgery office listed, so we called and got Jenna an appointment there. Something is better than nothing I guess. So now we wait again. I have heard mixed answers about whether or not they will even try to correct a baby's head that only has mild plagio. I really hope they will treat Jenna because she is 8 months old now, she'll be 9 months by the time we go to the appointment, and has been mobile for several months with no change to the shape of her head. Unfortunately we have to wait 3 weeks for her appointment because Charlotte is a 6 hour drive for us, and we have to wait until my husband is on leave, and the older kids are on break. Three weeks seems so far away right now. I heard a rumor on another board that the Charlotte Cranial Tech was talking baout opening a satellite office in Durham, NC. If we do have to go that route, I hope it's true. Does anyone know how long the wait usually is to get casted? Thanks for listening ) Dana & Jenna NC, USA
Guest guest
Dana - Good luck in your appointment with Cranial Tech. My daughter Naomi has mild plagio and Cranial Tech did suggest we treat her, and were more than willing to do it for us. We did end up with a STARband thru our local hospital. Naomi was 6 1/2 months when her band went on and has only had it on for two weeks. We go back this week to check, but I think I see improvement. SO, I think if you feel you need the band, even at 9 months with mild plagio, you should see some pretty good results. As for how long you have to wait for the casting, when I asked at Cranial Tech (in Atlanta) they usually do it right away, with no waiting. The only thing you have to consider is your insurance. If your insurance will be paying with no problem, then you could get it done right away. If you have to sent stuff to them and then wait for an answer to see if you will be covered, that could delay your casting, because as I am sure you know, if you are going to fight with an appeal, you usually have to wait for some sort of denial first. Good luck. Mom to Naomi (STARband 2/8/02) GA > Hi everyone, > I tried posting earlier but it doesn't look like it went through, so > here goes again. Guest guest
Dana: 3 weeks does sound like a long time right now, but it will be here before you know it! That's great you were able to find a Dr. that will look at Jenna to get a 2nd opinion. You asked how long it takes to get an appt to be casted - for us, I called Cranial Tech on a Monday & they casted Abby that same Friday. They are very fast to get you in to get your child casted. Then it usually takes about 2 wks til you get the band after the casting. Guest guest
Dana, Sounds like you are doing all the right things. The waiting is definitely the hardest part, but it really sounds like for now you are doing all that you can do. Hang in there! Guest guest
Hi !! Wow, it's great to hear from you again, it's been a long time for sure! Max is absolutely adorable & has gotten so big! Looks like he decorated himself a bit huh? LOL, what a riot. He really looks terrific. Very interesting about the tort still hanging around, how incredibally frustrating. I can imagine how difficult it must be doing the exercises now w/a stubborn 2.5 yr old. Keep plugging away. It sounds like you certainly miss California That's gotta be tough, I could NEVER move from Michigan, as much as I hate it some days, it's my home. Glad you're settled in and the kiddos loved the snow. Nice of you to drop in - keep in touch please Debbie Abby's mom DOCgrad MI " G. Hart" <dangerleigh@...> wrote: Wow. I have not posted to this group in a LONG time!!! Maxwell has been out of his helmet now for nearly 20 months. He's doing fantastic though we are still battling the tort. Funny that at nearly 3 years old (July 2nd is his birthday), we are still struggling with this. Turning his head his not a problem. Full rotation and all but you notice it when he looks up: his head pulls down to the left, which it has always done. I thought this was all gone but he took a really good tumble down our basement stairs a few months back so I took him to my chiropractor because he was walking kind of funny and I wanted to be sure he was not out of alignment (one visit was all it took) and Dr. Jim (who knew very little about Max's Plagio & Tort) said that Max's tort is not better yet. I said what do you mean? And he told me that his head is still pulling down to his left shoulder and start doing the exercises again. So we do them 3 nights a week (boy is it a LOT harder now that he's older!!) and it's slowly getting better. We moved 11 months ago from my beloved San Francisco to boring Omaha, Nebraska. There may be some of you who live near here who think it's the cat's meow but after living in California for my entire life, this place it the pits. I survived my first 4 season and first real winter with snow. Maxwell and his older sister, le, LOVED the snow and told mommy she was an old fart for not wanting to play outside when it was 17 below zero!! We built one snowman (it only snowed 4x and stuck for 10 days total) and got to go sledding two days but we had fun any way.We are going on vacation to Phoenix and San Francisco for 10 days in June to see Grandma & Grandpa and to see some Giants Baseball (at least I am going for the baseball; the family is tagging along to humor me) as there is no MLB here in Omaha. When we get back, the College World Series will be just starting then it's Max's 3rd Birthday, 4th of July Weekend, 6 weeks of blistering heat and then big sister starts Kindergarten. This is Maxwell's "tattoo" artwork from last weekend. He's a very happy, typical 2 1/2 year old boy who loves trucks and dinosaurs. You cannot tell by looking at him that his head was misshapen. If you look at his left ear, you can see it's bent and that is the only clue of his Plagio (it's visible in the picture BTW).Just wanted to share and update on us. Guest guest
Hi - what a blast from the past!!! It's good to hear from you. Maxwell looks wonderful - what a happy little fellow! Too cute with the " tattoo " art. LOL! Bummer about the tort - sounds like you are making some headway there. We never had to deal with tort, but from what I've heard here it is a hard condition to shake. Well, I lived in Omaha, Nebraska for about 5 years when I was in grade school. I have only the very, very fondest memories of that place. Of course, I was a child and that may have made a difference - you say your kids seem to like it. Personally I like Lincoln, Nebraska a bunch. Very cool city with actually quite a few fun things to do. Omaha used to have a very cool zoo - the Henry Doorly Zoo - or something like that - is it still there? Thanks for checking in - it's always good to hear from our " old timers " ! LOL! Marci > Wow. Guest guest
Hey , Long time no 'see' stranger! Its good to see you popping back in here. Max is getting so big! He's adorable, and quite the artist too! Sorry to hear that you're still dealing with the tort, what a pain to think you had closed that chapter just to have to start all over again. I hope Omaha grows on you, eventually. Although I can imagine its terribly different than the fun and sun of California. Be sure to pop in more often, keep us posted on Max's tort!
